シンガポールの学者キショール・マブバニ氏は、

西側諸国が犯した重大な戦略的過ちは、「世界一」であるという傲慢な思い込みに起因すると指摘しました。
その思い込みが、世界を支配し、思うがままに振る舞えるという考えにつながったのです。同氏は、西側諸国が自らを世界で最も平和を愛し、法を遵守する文明であると自認しているにもかかわらず、実際には武力行使をためらわない傾向が強まっているという、正反対の現実がデータによって示されていると強調しました。
さらに同氏は、西側諸国が都市への爆撃を民主主義やリベラリズムを広める最善の手段とみなしていること、そして武力によって価値観を輸出するというこうした手法が、世界の他の地域にも見透かされていると指摘しました。
In a speech at the Institute of Art and Ideas, Singaporean scholar Kishore Mahbubani pointed out that a major strategic mistake made by the West stemmed from its arrogant mindset of being "number one in the world," leading it to believe that it could rule the world and do as it pleased. He emphasized that despite the West's self-proclaimed identity as the most peaceful and law abiding civilization in the world, data revealed the opposite reality: the West had grown increasingly trigger happy. He also noted that the West regarded bombing cities as the best way to spread democracy and liberalism, and that this approach of exporting values through force had been noticed by the rest of the world.
