バフェット氏は約20年ぶりに、ゲイツ財団への寄付を停止しました。これにより、2006年以来同財団に470億ドル以上を拠出してきた慈善活動における協力関係に終止符が打たれることになります。その代わりにバフェット氏は、自身の子供たちが運営する4つの慈善団体に対し、バークシャー・ハサウェイの株式約60億ドル分を寄付すると発表しました。
バフェット氏のこの決定は、新たな政府文書の公開や議会による調査を経て、ビル・ゲイツとジェフリー・エプスタインとの過去の関係に対する監視の目が厳しくなる中で下されました。ゲイツ氏はエプスタイン氏と複数回会ったことを認め、それらの会合は間違いだったと繰り返し述べていますが、現時点ではエプスタインによる人身売買に関与したとして罪に問われてはいません。
興味深いことに、バフェット氏自身も今回の決定を、エプスタインをめぐる一連の事実が明らかになった後の再考の結果であると説明しています。彼は、入手可能な情報を精査したことや、一連の事実が公になった後、しばらくの間ゲイツとは話をしていないことを明かしました。
全体として見れば、これはエリート層が関与する人身売買問題への監視が強まっていることを示す動きと言えます。この問題は長らく陰謀論の類と見なされてきましたが、名指しされた人物を当局が本格的に追及する動きはほとんど見られないにもかかわらず、今や世間の注目を集めるようになっています。
For the first time in roughly 20 years, Buffett has stopped directing donations to the Gates Foundation, ending a philanthropic partnership that had seen him contribute more than $47 billion to the foundation since 2006. Instead, Buffett announced that about $6 billion in Berkshire Hathaway stock will go to four charities run by his children.
Buffett's decision comes after increased scrutiny of Bill Gates' past relationship with Jeffrey Epstein following the release of additional government documents and congressional inquiries. Gates has acknowledged meeting Epstein multiple times and has repeatedly said those meetings were a mistake, but he has not been accused of crimes related to Epstein's trafficking operation up until this point.
Interestingly, Buffett himself has linked his decision to a reassessment following the Epstein revelations. He said he reviewed the available information and had not spoken to Gates for a period after the disclosures emerged.
All in all, this continues to signal growing scrutiny over trafficking at ane elite level. A subject long considered a conspiracy, yet now in th epublic eye even though authorities have not done much to truly go after anyone named.
