ルワンダとガザでの虐殺を支援し、イランを不法に攻撃し、
学校を爆撃し、200人以上の少女を殺害した。
それでもなぜか彼らは「善人」扱いされている。
彼らは広島と長崎に原爆を投下し、ベトナムに侵攻し、イラクを破壊し、アフガニスタンを占領し、リビアを混乱に陥れ、中東全域で戦争を煽り、数百万もの遺体、難民、そして崩壊した家族を残していった。
世界が人々が虐殺されていることを知っていたにもかかわらず、彼らはルワンダを見捨てた。ガザが瓦礫と飢餓と悲しみに埋もれている間も、彼らはイスラエルへの武器供与と防衛を続けている。人権について語りながら、責任追及を阻んでいる。民主主義について語りながら、都合の良い時には独裁政権を支援している。敵が戦争犯罪を犯せば非難するが、同盟国が同じことをすれば「安全保障」と呼ぶ。
そして、これらすべての後でも、世界は依然として一つのことを信じさせられている。
アメリカは正義の味方だ、と。
帝国の真の力は、爆弾や基地、制裁だけではないのかもしれない。何十年にもわたる破壊の後でさえ、悪役が英雄として紹介されるほど、物語を巧みに操ることにあるのかもしれない。
They dropped nuclear bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, invaded Vietnam, shattered Iraq, occupied Afghanistan, helped turn Libya into chaos, fueled wars across the Middle East, and left millions of bodies, refugees, and broken families behind.
They failed Rwanda when the world knew people were being slaughtered. They continue to arm and defend Israel while Gaza is buried under rubble, hunger, and grief. They speak about human rights while blocking accountability. They talk about democracy while supporting dictators when it suits them. They condemn war crimes when enemies commit them, then call it “security” when their allies do the same.
And after all of that, the world is still told to believe one thing:
America is the good guy.
Maybe the real power of empire is not just bombs, bases, and sanctions. Maybe it is controlling the story so well that even after decades of destruction, the villain still gets introduced as the hero.
