Quand on conduit sa voiture, c'est le GPS qui nous dit où il faut tourner, quand il faut s’arrêter, quelle rue prendre ou au contraire quelle rue ne pas prendre...
When we drive our car, it is the GPS that tells us where to turn, when to stop, which street to take or, on the contrary, which street not to take, etc. We let ourselves be led and it’s relaxing. However, by dint of “delegating” our sense of direction, it gradually diminishes and ends up atrophying. So, if in the middle of the journey, someone asks us our position, our first instinct is to take a look at the person to whom we have delegated our sense of direction: the GPS. This tool becomes the real thought leader on board. In a way, he's the one driving. Well regarding intellectual submission, it's the same thing: we delegate our critical thinking to the authority who explains to us the thoughts to have and especially not to have. We let ourselves be guided. This saves us the effort of thinking. As with the driver following his GPS, it is relaxing and calming. However, little by little, intellectual laziness increases and critical thinking diminishes. And the day arrives when we no longer even have the inner strength to meditate on the stories that reach our mind, nor to wonder if we might not be in a state of intellectual submission. That day, we think by proxy, we are under intellectual supervision. 私たちは指示されるままに身を任せ、リラックスしている。 しかし、方向感覚を "委ねる "ことで、それは徐々に衰え、やがて萎縮してしまう。

何を考え、何を考えてはいけないかを教えてくれる権威に、批判的な心を委ねるのだ。 私たちは自分自身を導いてもらうのだ。 そうすることで、考える手間が省ける。 運転手がGPSに従うように、リラックスして心が落ち着く。
しかし、少しずつ知的怠惰が増し、批判的思考が衰えていく。 そして、心に届く物語に目を瞑ったり、自分が知的服従の状態にあるのではないかと自問したりする心の強ささえ、もはや持てなくなる日がやってくる。
その日、私たちは代理人として、知的保護下にあると考える。 運転しているつもりが運転され、考えているつもりが他人のスピーチを繰り返している。
