It was while visiting the south of Morocco in 1871 that the French sculptor Frederic Auguste Bartholdi, who designed the Statue of Liberty in New York, had the idea of styling this famous monument like the Amazigh Woman, especially when he learned that “Amazigh” means “free man or woman”.
