After the end of World War II, this letter was found in a Nazi concentration camp, containing the following message addressed to teachers:
"Dear teachers , I am a concentration camp survivor. My eyes have seen what no one should see.
- Gas chambers built by skilled engineers.
- Children poisoned by skilled doctors.
- Babies killed by skilled nurses.
- Women and children killed and burned by graduates.
So I have my suspicions about education.
My plea is: help students become people. Your efforts should never produce trained monsters or experienced psychopaths. Reading, writing and knowing arithmetic will only be important if they make our children more human."

資格を持った医師に毒殺された子供たち。
資格を持った看護師に殺された赤ん坊たち。
学位取得者に殺され、焼かれた女性や子供たち。
ですから、教育に関して私は疑念を抱いています。
私からのお願いは、学生が人間になれるようにしてほしいということです。あなた方の努力は、訓練されたモンスターや経験豊富なサイコパスを生み出すことであっては決してなりません。読み書きや算数が重要になるのは、子供たちをより人間らしくするためであってこそなのです」
