1957年12月11日に初めての100円玉硬貨が発行されたそうです！
当時は100円が最高額面のコインなので、500円はまだなかったということですね。
500円貯金できないじゃないか！
やってないけど。。

Today is "100円玉の日," meaning "100 Yen Coins Day."
One hundred yen coins were issued for the first time on December 11, 1957. At that time, the 100 yen coin was the highest coin denomination. No 500 yen coins yet! We can't do "※500 yen coins saving." I'm not doing it, though. lol

※500 yen coins saving=one of the popular ways to save money in Japan. Whenever you have 500 yen coins, you try not to use them; you keep them. There are many kinds of saving boxes sold just for this method of saving money.

I put just one example.
