ブライアン・アダムス通算１５作目のアルバム
ブライアン・アダムスが通算１５作目のアルバム『So Happy It Hurts』を２０２２年３月１１日発売した。
２０１９年の『Shine a Light』以来の２年ぶりのアルバム。前作発表後はBON JOVIとの北米ツアーが発表されたが、残念ながらコロナ禍で中止となってしまった。ツアーができないなら、アルバムを作ろうということで、この短いスパンで新たなアルバムが作られたのだろうと思う。
前作も秀作であったが、本作もよくできた作品と仕上がっている。８０年代や９０年代のブライアン・アダムスはキャッチ―でハッピーなロックンロールを聴かせてくれたが、２０００年代に入ってからは少し情緒性の強いアルバムを作っていたと思うが、２０１５年発売の『Get Up』から、もう一度吹っ切れたようなロックンロールに戻ってきて、前作でもキャッチ―なロックンロールを聴かせてくれた。
本作は『Get Up』や前作『Shine A Light』と同じ波長な曲調を聴かせてくれる。ハッピーで元気なロックンロールである。
なんといっても、アルバム発売前に発表された「Kick Ａｓｓ」には度肝を抜かれた。本曲はアルバム７曲目に収録されているが、このロックンロール魂には感服してしまった。とてもロックしているのが気持ちよい。
この１曲を聴くだけでもアルバムを買う価値がある。
この曲はアルバム１曲目かと思いきや、７曲目に収録。つまりレコードのB面１曲目である。
私としてはA面１曲目としてほしかった。それほどいい曲である。

01. So Happy It Hurts
A road song with a Canadian nod! The lockdown really brought home the fact that spontaneity could be taken away. We couldn’t just jump in the car and go. This song is really about freedom and the thrill of the open road.
カナディアンのロードソング。ロックダウンは自発的な行動を奪い去ってしまうことを知らしめました。車に乗ってロードにでることもできなくなりました。この曲はオープンロードをぶっ飛ばすスリルと自由についての曲です。
02. Never Gonna Rain
Just trying to be optimistic on this one! Imagine someone who keeps on expecting the best, even in the face of the worst. Taking the rain and turning it into a gift.
この曲は楽天的になるように挑戦する曲です。最悪の事態に直面しても、最高のものを期待しつづける人を想像してみてください。雨を降らせてそれを贈り物に変えます。
03. You Lift Me Up
We all need a team, we can’t do it alone. This song is all about that. Wether it be a friend or a loved one, no man is an island!
私たちはひとりでは何もできなくて、仲間が必要だ。この曲はそのことを歌にした。友人だろうが恋人だろうが誰もひとりではない。
04. I've Been Looking For You
This was written for the Broadway production of "Pretty Woman: The Musical”. It got axed, but I always believed it was a great song. So its new life is on this album!
この曲はブロードウェイ舞台の「Pretty Women; The Musical」のために書かれました。それは挫折しましたが、素晴らしい曲だと信じていました。だからこのアルバムで新しい息吹を吹き込まれています。
05. Always Have, Always Will
A declaration of devotion, pure and simple. It’s for someone that has been with you and is still with you despite your ups and downs; someone that can see through your layers of complexity and sees you for you. Someone you appreciate, respect, and trust

06. On The Road
I wrote this song for the Pirelli Calendar this year, it’s all about life in a band. The pandemic cancelled everyone’s tours, hence the line: ready to explode! It was humbling to think that touring might be over…but it starts up again in Norway on the 19th May!
この曲はピレリカレンダーのために書きました。バンド人生の曲です。
パンデミックはすべてのツアーを中止へと追いやりました。それゆえに爆発できる準備ができています。
ツアーが終わってしまったと考えるのには謙虚すぎました。
ノルウェーから５月１９日にツアーが開始します。
07. Kick Ass
I always felt we needed a good opening song for the live show, so Mutt Lange and I worked together to create this banger. John Cleese’s introductory sermon sums up the song, there’s not enough rock music in the world!
ライブでのオープニング曲をずっと書きたかったんです。

08. I Ain't Worth Shit Without You
Contrary to conventional wisdom, women are by far the stronger sex. Men, for the most part, are mostly ill-equipped to navigate the ups and downs of relationships, speaking from experience, of course.
