今日のお写真は、実はデータをいただいたもので、サラ撮影じゃないけど、以前からずっと紹介したいって思っていたお写真

おひげあるけど、まだ高校生だよ
インドの極東の州、マニプール州のインパール
そして彼が手を置いているのは・・
「一式機動47ミリ砲」という大日本帝国陸軍の対戦車砲
the boy is a upper secondary school student in Imphal, India
and the machine he’s holding is the type 1 47 mm anti-tank gun of Imperial Japanese Army, used in combat in WWII
インパールは第二次世界大戦で悲惨な激戦があったことは、誰もが歴史の教科書で学んでいると思うけど、もう歴史の教科書のなかの文字にしか思えなくなっているのが日本の現状かも・・
インパールでは、この地で尊い命を失った日本兵に今も敬意を表し、そして英霊に手を合わせてくれているって・・どれほどの日本人が知っているのかしら・・
Imphal, probably most of Japanese learn what happened in Imphal, but for us now “Imphal” is just one page of the history
and probably almost all of Japanese don’t know that still, even now, people in Imphal are paying their respects toward the sprits of Japanese soldiers who were killed there by the war, and pray for them
インパールの人たちは、今も慰霊碑をまもってくれていて、定期的に慰霊碑やその周辺の掃除の奉仕を続けてくれているの
it’s amazing that even young students in Imphal voluntarily work to clean the war memorial and surrounding areas
お写真は、インパールの高校生だった（今は大学生！）ヘマンタ君からいただいたもの
ヘマンタ君との出会いって、すごく不思議だったのよ
サラ、日本に招聘される高校生をお迎えにデリーに行ったんだけど、オリエンをして、「さぁみんな、準備はいい？日本に行くよ！」って空港に向かうバスで、なぜかサラの隣に座ってきたのがヘマンタ君だったの
300数人の生徒がいて、バス1台だって50人ぐらい乗れるのに、なぜヘマンタ君がサラの横に！？？？

Sarah felt somewhat strange feeling, well, mysterious? you know there were more than 300 students to Japan, why Hemata? yeah, anyway, Hemanta sat next to Sarah in a bus to the airport to fly to Japan
「どこから来たの？」「マニプール！マダム（インドはイギリス英語だからね、目上の女性は「マダム」）インパールって街、知ってる？ボク、インパールから来たんだ。」
ああ・・インパールって・・
“which city are you from?” “Manipur, Madam, you know, Imphal? I’m from Imphal!”
oh. . . Imphal!
実は、サラっちばぁちゃんの叔父がインパールで戦死しているんだけど、サラ、ずっと知らなかった
たまたま、セバス・チャンドラ・ボースというインド独立連盟のメンバーのことを調べていた頃に、偶然、大叔父がインパールで戦ったことを知ったんだけどね
actually, Sarah’s grand-uncle was killed in Imphal, but Sarah didn’t know it for a long time, but, when Sarah was studying about Subhas Chandra Bose, the leader of Indian Independence League, accidentally Sarah found out about him
でね、なんでチャンドラ・ボースのことを知りたくなったかと言うと、パキスタンでちょっとお勉強していた時に（赴任前）、友人のおうちの使用人が、ちょっと日本語を知っていたの
なんで？って聞いたら、昔、日本兵と一緒にイギリス軍と戦ったって言ったのよ
well, why Sarah was interested in Chandra Bose? you know it was also strange experience, yeah, when Sarah was visiting Pakistan, met an old guy who were working for her friend’s, and spoke a bit of Japanese
“how did you learn it?” “I was fighting against UK with Japanese soldiers!”
えぇ？日本軍とインド人（パキスタンは当時英領インド）が一緒に？ってビックリしてインド独立連盟に行きついて、そしてチャンドラ・ボースに・・
そしたら、なんと身内がインパールで戦死しているって知って
なんかね、すっごい遠回りして大叔父の最後の地にたどり着いたわけ
Sarah didn’t know that Japanese army was working with Indian people, it was a surprise for her! so that Sarah wanted to know about Indian Independence League
it was a long, long and long way to know about the last place of her grand-uncle
そのころも、こんな形で大叔父のことを知るってなんか不思議って思ったのよね
でね、ヘマンタ君に戻ると、偶然、最後にバスに乗って、他に席がなくなっちゃって、サラの隣になっちゃっただけなのに、その子からまた「インパール」の言葉が・・
then about Hemant! yeah, meeting him in the bus was also mysterious coincidence!
で、ちらっと、「サラのママのおじちゃん、インパールの近くで亡くなったんだって」って言ったら
「マダム！」急に眼をキラキラさせて、顔を近づけて
「安心して、おじさんの魂は僕たちが守っているよ！」ってすごい勢いで言ってきたの・・びっくり！
Sarah told him “well, Mother told me that my grand-uncle was killed near Imphal” then, suddenly Hemanta cried “Madam, don’t worry, your uncle’s spirit is taking care of us with our hearts!” he was excited
インパールの人たちは、日本兵のおかげでイギリスから独立できたって、インパールで戦った日本兵への感謝の気持ちを代々伝えているって
感謝と敬意を表すために、慰霊碑をきれいに保っているって
なんかね、ヘマンタ君の話を聞いていたら、涙がぽろぽろ・・・

長いお話になっちゃったけど、でも、インパールでは子供たちも日本に帰れなかった日本兵を温かく守ってくれているって・・伝えたくて・・・
wow. it became a long story though, just wanted to tell that even now so many of people in Imphal are taking care of spirits of Japanese soldiers who was not able to come back to Japan
