Sleepy Baby Samurai and The Magic Painting.
I received this book from the author Mr Andrew Zeller. The book is illustrated by Duha Lee.
My 10 year old has read it and though it was great.
I personally like how in his dream the baby has so many adventures! Meeting samurai and dragons there is alot of adventure in a short space of time. The storyline is very easy to understand and appeals to all kindergarteners and elementary schoolers I think.
Taking time to talk about Japanese garments, patterns, flowers etc in the book is one way to change it slightly for higher levels.
I like that his book shows an Asian and non Asian mixed race family. Even though in reality mom and dad oftentimes have different nationalities and backgrounds It is still very rare to see in mass media.
Having diversity celebrated in a childrens book in very refreshing and is great for children to see.
The book itself is very well made with a matt finish which feels nice in my hands.
The illustrations are wonderful and really compliment the story perfectly.
I think this book has a very wide ranging appeal and I recommend it!
