無断と分かってしていることが露見される、とても恥ずかしい行為です。
この曲に限らず、私だけに限らず、訳というものは、時間を費やして、頭を使って、何度も推敲して、完成させるものです。大事に育てて形にしたものです。

コロナも怖いしなかなか外出もままならないですよねぇ… マスクに消毒、うがいも忘れず、感染予防対策をしつつ、楽しく過ごせると良いですね。
因みに私は先週、連休を避けて仙台へと出向きまして、今頃疲れがどっと出ております。歳か………。
さて、今日は一昨日アップされたばかりの新曲を。
最近あまり触手の動くものがなかったのですが、内容がとっても良くって、是非とも訳したくなってしまいました。
ジャスティンくん、久しぶりの落ち着いた感じの曲ではないかな。
（…いや、つい最近目にしたのが、本人は歌ってないけども、いかにもポップスター然としたミュージックビデオだったからそう感じただけかもしれません…… DJキャリードの『Popstar』に出演していたやつです、はい）
今回コラボしているのはチャンス・ザ・ラッパー。
ジャスティンくんとは日本で言うと同学年にあたる、同年代のラッパーさんです。
上の画像は、ジャスティンが似たような衣装を着けて真似して撮ったもののよう。

チャンス・ザ・ラッパー（Chance The Rapper、1993年4月16日 - ）は、アメリカ・イリノイ州シカゴ出身の男性ヒップホップアーティスト。
レーベルと契約しない・音源を有料販売しないという従来の音楽ビジネスとは一線を画す活動形態ながら、グラミー賞を受賞、音楽フェスティバルにヘッドライナーとして出演するなど大きな成功を収めている。

敬虔なクリスチャンであると言われるジャスティンの、内面がかなり描かれていると思われる内容で、とてもとても宗教色の強い歌詞でありました。
歌詞の最初の方に出てくる「go down to the river」について、調べて辿っていくと、どうやら『Down to the River to Pray』という曲があり、それは洗礼についての歌詞であるという解釈があります。
今年8月6日にInstagramにアップされていたのは、妻ヘイリーと共に洗礼を受けた様子で、このことも踏まえての歌詞なのかなぁ、なんて思いました。
加えてラップがあると、更に色んな情報が詰め込まれていてとても難しかったです。
もしかしたら足りない部分などあるかもしれませんが、多めに見て頂けると幸いです。…訳についての説明がかなり多いです。

・the sky opens up → 空が開くとは、大雨が降ることを意味する。逆に "Close 閉じる"は、高温多湿で閉じ込められているように感じることを意味し、窓を開けたくなるように感じる状態。
・a track star → a star runnerと同じ。陸上のスター選手。
・nirvana → ヒンズー教においての涅槃。
・come out of the water → 洗礼の儀式は、宗派に寄り違うが、水に入り上がってくるものが多い。
・Joe Pesci →アメリカの俳優。ホームアローンの泥棒役でもお馴染み。
・Parlay and Desi → アメリカのコメディアン／俳優であるデシ・バンクスが演じた役の一つがパーレイと言う。
・Cross, Tween, Tween, Hesi' → アメリカのプロバスケ選手であるCJマッカラムが、ゲーム終盤にて行う「クロスオーバードリブル、レッグ間ドリブル、レッグ間ドリブル、フェイント（a cross-over dribble, between the legs dribble, between the legs dribble, and hesitation move）」を口語で言ったもの。
・Lionel Messi → ご存知サッカー選手のメッシのこと。利き足が左足であることから。
・the Vespas → イタリアのバイク。映画「ローマの休日」で有名となった。
・He'll part the clouds → モーゼの十戒で紅海を二つに割ったことをモチーフにしているのかなと思い、この訳となりました。
・a snack like Oscar Proud → ディズニーアニメ「ザ・プラウド・ファミリー」のキャラクターの一人であるオスカー・プラウドはスナック会社を経営している。
・in communion → キリスト教の礼拝にて行われる聖体拝領のこと。キリストのからだとなったとされるパンを食すことで相互間の一致がもたらされる、とされている。
