今回は地下鉄、駅、バス、タクシーの話！
At this time, talking about the subway, Stations, Buses, Yellow cabs.
ご存知の方も多いと思いますが
ニューヨーク、本当に地下鉄とバスが２４時間運行していて便利です。
metro card はどちらも乗れるし、たいがいどこでも行けます。
でも時刻表はありません。来たとこ限りなので案外待たされます！
Anyone knows,
but the subway & the bus are running around the clock.
It's a great convenience for people in NYC.
We can go almost anywhere and use both transportation with the Metro Card.
Unfortunately they don't have timetable so we can't know what time they are coming.
We usually have to expect to kill the time for them.
さて、数日とか１ヶ月とか長く滞在するのなら unlimited です、お得です！
１日限りのunlimitedもあります。
でも制限無しのカードを１枚買って複数の人間で使うことは出来ません。時間制限などがあります。
Then, if you stay a bit longer for a few days or a month, Unlimited card is better to make gain.
They also have another unlimited card for one day only.
Notes,
You can't use the Metro card for an only by yourselves. It's has a time limit too.
販売機は現金もカードも使えますが、１００ドル札は使えませんし、駅で両替はまず無理です。
販売機には日本語はないのでEnglishで操作します。
Vending ticket machine can accept you to use the cash( except one hundred dollar) & the credit card both.
They cannot provide change. You have to operate that machine in English.

駅員がブースにいるので、自分専用のmapもタダなのでgetしましょう。
Next,
You buy the Metro card and try to get the subway map at their booth.
It's free.
どこでもそうですが、まず愛想のいい駅員はいないので必要な事をさっさと聞きましょう。
駅の中にもmapはありますし、地下鉄の中にもありますが、どこかに行って帰りどのルートでという事になるとやはりmapがあると一番近い地下鉄がわかるし、乗り換えなど考える場合にも必要です。
Basically the station employee is unhelpful so you try to ask your questions quickly.
The map will be very useful for you anywhere you want to go. Because it's easy to understand
the closest station how to get & transfer some routes.

さて、駅には
ダウンタウンdowntown 、アップタウンuptownは表示してありますが、
日本のように前と次の両駅名を書いていないので方向がわからず乗り間違うことがあります。
Anyway, at the stations,
they show the directions of downtown & uptown
but they have no signs about previous & next station names at the platform.
There would be complicated for the strangers to know the directions.
だから、乗る駅から、上にあがるか、下に下がるか、で方向を決めて選ぶ。
電車がどちら方向からくるのかは、
みなさんなかなか来ない地下鉄にいらつきながら、来る方向を見ています、のですぐにわかります！
At first it's better for you to choose the directions of up or down from your first station.
Then you can find out the course of subway coming because irritated people keep going to look at in a same line.
そして、普通、急行を見極める。
間違うとまた乗り換えればいいのですが、待ち時間と階段の上り下り考えると無駄なので、
わからなければ聞いた方がよいです。
新しい地下鉄の中には、駅名を電光掲示してあるのですがこれも違う路線を走っている事が多いのであてにはなりません。
Then you have to find out which one is the local or express.
If you get on the wrong subway, you will take more waste time to wait it and going up and down the long many steps.
Some of the new subway show us the sign of each stations in their particular line.
But sometimes they are running at a different course.
また夜中１２時以降は、当然「本数がいきなり減る」ので、夜遊びする場合は注意！
私はブルックリンに住んでいた時、急行の止まるプロスペクトパークでしたが休日と夜中はなくなるので、マンハッタンから帰るのに待ち時間も入れると、１時間かかることなんてしょっちゅうでした。
And also the number of subway per mid night drop off suddenly.
If you wanna go out at night, staying at there over night might be better than going home.
I experienced many times to kill the time about an hour including waiting time at the midnight station when I was living in Brooklyn.
Because Prospect park station has no express subway on weekends and at midnight.
やはり、マンハッタンのアパートが何故高いのか、
帰国前にようやく気づいたけれど、
セントラルパーク周辺、イーストもウェストもサウスも高級街には地下鉄優遇していて３本も走ってたりするので他より格段に便利なんですよ！貧富の差かしら。。。！
Obviously I found the reason why the apartments in central Manhattan are so expensive before I retuned to Japan at last.
The area of around the central park, east & west side of a high-class residential street has three subway lines that is rather convenience place comparing with other areas.
It's a great difference...I think that it's like the gulf between rich and poor.
タイムズスクエア、グランドセントラル、３４丁目、５９丁目、ウェスト４、など
主要な大きな駅は何時になっても沢山人がいたり、警察もいますので安心ですが、
小さな駅やハーレム方面などは
夜中の構内は駅員も誰もいなくなるので、ストリートを歩く以上にこわいかもしれません。
駅周辺やストリートには浮浪者は案外沢山います。やはり油断は禁物ですね。
There are many people & the Police anytime even midnight at the major big stations like Times Square, Grand-central, 34 Street, 59 Street and West4 etc....But there is very few at the small stations at midnight. It might be scary much more than walking along the streets.
There are many vagrants on the streets and around the stations.
Keep your eyes watch around you..
タクシーも
主要駅以外はあまりいないので、つかまえるのは案外難しいです。
As for the taxi,
You cannot find a taxi easily at the streets except major areas.
タクシーは料金が安いし、チップも最近はカードなら１０％、２０％。。と選べるので計算しなくて良いから慣れない人には助かるかもしれません。
でも道路はいつも混雑しているので時間がかかることも多いです。
乗ったら、ストリートとアベニューを伝えましょう。有名な建物なら名称だけでも大丈夫です。
運転手は移民がほとんどなので、とっても聞き取りにくい英語です！
Taxi fare is very cheap so it's easy for the people visiting New York for the first time to pay for it because they show the amount of the tip percentage clearly just like 10%, 20%, ..
But we sometimes need to take more time by taxi because of a traffic jam.
When you get on the taxi, Try to tell the driver about the name of the Street and the Avenue.
You will not need to tell it if you go to the famous places.
The most of drivers are immigrants so you cannot understand their English easily.
