「夢路より（Beautiful dreamer)」
この曲は、題名にセレナードとは付いていませんが、内容はまさにセレナードそのものです。
フォスターは1864年1月13日に37歳という若さで亡くなりましたが、「夢路より」は死の数日前に完成したと伝えられています（ただ、異説もあります）。その意味では、フォスターにとっての「白鳥の歌」とも言えますね。
フォスターの晩年は悲惨で、妻や子とも別れ酒びたりの生活だったということですが、そんな中からこの美しい名曲が生まれたことを思うと何か感慨深いものがあります。
