November's listening stats for J1 are at about the same as October. There was a decline in VIP listening. Overall listening fell sharply around the USA Thanksgiving Day holiday but since has rebounded.
In December, we are already starting to see a sharp increase in listening, especially with VIPs. This increase is in spite of changes to the Live365 stream that reduced the number of free listener slots. December's listening may be impacted negatively due to the Christmas and New Year holidays around the world as well as the American school winter break period. From the way it looks right now, the earlier part of the month will help pad the latter part of the month when listening traditionally declines.
J1 is planning three year end specials related to Christmas, the yearly Top 100 chart and a preview of the Kohaku Uta-gassen.
J1 reminds listeners that you will never reach a busy signal with a Live365 VIP membership. While we do not directly make money off of VIP memberships, it does reduce our monthly bill at the end of the programming year. Please help out by purchasing your VIP from J1FM.com and by listening with your VIP membership logged in!
Thanks for a great 2009
J1 LOVES YOU!
Michi & Almeda

Wendy Tokunaga
Here's her bio:
Wendy
Nelson Tokunaga is the author of the novels, MIDORI BY MOONLIGHT (St.
Martin's Press) and LOVE IN TRANSLATION (St. Martin's Press, November
24, 2009). Japan and Japanese culture have been major influences on her
life and this is reflected in much of her writing. Her first trip to
Japan was as a winner in a songwriting contest sponsored by a Japanese
record label. Later she lived for a year in Tokyo, taught English,
recorded narration work for language tapes, and sang with some rock
bands. She even appeared on a wacky TV singing contest for foreigners,
which is part of the inspiration for the television show depicted in Love in Translation. After
she returned home she continued to participate in Japanese karaoke
contests in San Francisco’s Japantown and won a number of prizes, and
also appeared on NHK’s Nodo Jiman program.
It was in San Francisco that she met and married her husband Manabu
Tokunaga, an expatriate who had moved to the United States from Osaka
when he was eighteen.
Wendy
signed her two-book deal with St. Martin’s just as she was beginning
the MFA in Writing program at the University of San Francisco in 2006.
Along with her MFA, she also holds a BA in Psychology from San
Francisco State University. In her spare time Wendy sings bossa nova,
cool pop, jazz standards and Japanese songs accompanied by Manabu on
electronic keyboards. They live with their cat Meow in the San
Francisco Bay Area, a short walk from the Pacific Ocean.
Wendy recorded a "pop enka" song that is the theme to her recently released novel "LOVE IN TRANSLATION". Listen for "Nozomi no Hoshi" 「望みの星」 (The Wishing Star) on J1 throughout the week.
