The J1 "Lower-100" / J1の低100

On New Year's Day, J1 will release our Top-100 of 2009 chart. Today, we will release the songs that based on the chart statistics placed between 101 and 200 in the scoring. The same scoring rules that applied to the Top 100 also applied to this chart.

* - Starting this year, J1 will impose a special placement rule. No artist can have a song within 10 positions of another song by the same artist. The additional song will be placed 10 positions below the original song regardless of scoring. This is to comply with United States copyright law (DMCA) as it applies to internet radio stations for the presentation of the playlist in the broadcast. Even though it will be broadcast, the Lower-100 chart also applies with this new rule.

J1 Holiday Programming Schedule

As we reach the holiday period, the Japanese music industry takes a break as the number of new releases are significantly reduced. For example, this week's J1 music update is only 4 songs. This is compared to an average of 20 per week.

This is also a time when we take advantage of taking a break ourselves.

With that, we are proud to introduce our J1 Holiday Programming Schedule.

   Special programming blocks will include:

KOHAKU PREVIEW

J1 presents a preview of the JPOP artists who will play in this year's NHK Red and White Song Contest (Kohaku Uta-gassen). In this special, we will hold our own song contest by scoring 13 artists on each team to see which team is stronger based on the J1 chart statistics. This will be a two hour program in English presented by J1's Michi-chan and will air after both presentations of the J1 Top 40 JPOP Countdown on December 19 & 20 and then a third presentation will take place on New Year's Eve at 5PM JST just prior to the NHK presentation of the Kohaku Uta Gassen.

X'MAS ON J1
J1's annual all-day Christmas offering. This year's X'mas show will be a 30-hour all Christmas music format commencing at midnight on Christmas Day in Japan and will run until late in the evening on Christmas Day in the USA. The program will consist of a 9-hour loop of programming which features Christmas music that has been heard already this season on J1 as well as songs previously heard on Hardcore J, anime Christmas songs formerly heard on Anime Hardcore Radio as well as many songs that have never been heard on any of our stations before. We are very excited about this year's X'mas offering. Please join us for as little or as much as you can and have a very meri kurisumasu!

ALL OF 2009
2009 was a major turning point for the radio station. The format/image change to J1, the JPOP Summit in San Francisco, J1's Commitment to New Music and increased listening. J1 launched a lot of new music on the station this past year. To celebrate, we will narrow down our playlist in the last week of the month to just those songs from this great year! Catch up on all of those great songs from this past year that you may have missed. Also during this time, J1 will temporarily switch to Live365 basic mode so we can do some long overdue maintenance on the computer systems that bring you J1. During this time, you will hear audio commercials playing on the air. Live365 VIP members who are logged in will not hear the audio ads.

THE J1 TOP 100 OF 2009
This will be our premiere event on J1. We have tallied up the charts from the past 52 weeks and have ranked all of the songs to determine the 100 hottest songs in Japan based on J1 chart statistics. Hear all 100 songs played back in a row on the Top 100. This year's shows will start on New Year's Day at Midnight in Japan (right after the Kohaku), Midnight PST in the USA and a third presentation starting on New Year's Day at 11AM PST.

Kohaku Preview Special

This weekend after both plays of the J1 Top 40 JPOP Countdown, we will present a 2 hour special.

The J1 KOHAKU PREVIEW will play music from 13 of the JPOP artists on each team of the New Year's Eve NHK TV special "Red and White Song Contest" ("Kohaku Uta Gassen").

The show will be in a contest format where each "team" (red/akagumi and white/shirogumi) can earn points based on their chart statistics on the J1 weekly charts.

The team with the most points at the end is the winner.

This program will be 2 hours in length and will be presented by Michi-chan.

There will also be a special encore presentation of the show on New Year's Eve (Japan) just prior to the airing of the Kohaku Uta gassen.
