英検Writing対策

最近の娘のEnglish  lessonで行っている内容の一つが「journalを書く」なのですが、

英検を受けていこうと思っている方には

このjournalを書くというのはおすすめです。

わからない単語は英英辞書で調べれば

語彙力も上がりますし、

Writing力もかなりつきます。

娘のjournal テーマは↓のように分かり易いものから

人種差別の歴史のような少し難しい内容まであるのですが、

今回、journal を書いていて娘が一言

「United とIntegrateの違いって何？」

どちらも日本語では「統合」

意味合いは似てるけど

違う。

ということで娘の先生に質問したところ

すごく似ているけど意味合いは違うよとのことで

私なりに理解した二つの違い↓

the United States はIntegrated States 

とは表現できない。

Integrateはネガティヴで悲しい感じの意味合いが背景としてある統合で

United はポジティブで強く変化を作り上げていこうという感じの意味合いがある統合。

が！！

日本語でもうまく説明できず、

結局を読ませて説明しました。

United is people coming together to become one voice or power. All people may come from different backgrounds but they have one common goal, thought, or opinion so they voluntarily come together and create one larger group. For example, children unite together to raise money to save the planet.

Integration/integrate means that people were forcefully separated by law or society (segregation/segregate) and are now allowed to become whole. Integrate is meaning to become one whole again. For example, the school integrated all children from all different backgrounds and religions. 

娘はjoinに近い意味合いで理解していたようで

そうじゃないんだよ！と説明するのが非常に難しい違い。

英検もpre2レベルの(低学年向け)writingであれば

そこまでの語彙力は不要なので

これらのニュアンスの違いにこだわる必要はないかなとも思いますが、知ってて損もない！😊
