Sunday 5 February 2023 School Festival Preliminary Round

19 (Sun) Feb 2023 School festival finals and annual awards ceremony

The school festival was held on 19 February 2023 (Sunday).キラキラ

The school festival is a competition in which representative students from all 42 classrooms of Ishido Shuzan Gakuen gather to compete.

The annual awards ceremony was also held for students who performed well in the competition and for students who received awards for good attendance, etc.

It has become the school's biggest event, with athletes, enrolled students and parents working together to make the classrooms exciting.

Now in its 38th year, this year's competition has 616 participants.!!

From first-time competitors to those who have competed at the national level

The competition attracted a large number of athletes ✨.

The preliminary round on Sunday, 5 February, was held as a satellite event online at each venue.

As fellow students in the same classroom, everyone in the school put their hearts into making flowers and sending messages of support for the competitors.ニコニコ飛び出すハート

The colourful decorations created a very festive atmosphere in each classroom!ラブラブ

The competitions included individual all-around reading mental arithmetic and reading arithmetic events. (*Relays were held in each classroom as a qualifying round.)

A heated battle was held to decide who would go to the finals.!!

The athletes who made it through the heated competition to the finals were

19 February (Sunday): the school festival finals.

The School Festival Final was held at the Asakusabashi Hulic Hall.

The representative athletes from each discipline and category and the winners of the annual awards gathered at the venue.ひらめき電球

The first thing that took place was the 'Annual Awards Ceremony'.

The "good attendance Award" is given to students who attend classes for eight or more sessions every month without missing a class.

The "Shuei Prize", "Grand Prize", and "Fighting Spirit Prize" are awarded to students who have participated in the Kantou (eastern half of Japan, including Tokyo) and other national competitions and won the top prize in Japan.

The"Special awards" are given to students who have set an excellent example for other Soroban students in competitions and examinations.

The students all put in a lot of hard work and looked refreshed on the stage.

The next event was the 'relay competition'.

In a relay competition, students calculate a multiplication, division, arithmetic, slips and sums in a relay format and derive the answers.

The students perform the multiplication and slips, and the parents complete the sums.

It is a traditional event at school festivals.ひらめき電球

One parent who did the sums in one of the classrooms said

This year's school festival was the sixth time they had participated in the relay...目

They cheered with their original fans (one of the classrooms has been using them for ten years...びっくり) and cheered during the competition.

The competition was a great success, with cheers flying all around during the race.音譜

Parents and teachers were thrilled.

The winner was...

The winner of the first division: Minami Kashiwa Classroom

The winner of the second division: Sakura Shizu Classroom

After the relay competition, the 'Master Tournament and Junior Maths master Tournament in the school' occurred.クラッカー

The 'School Meijin Tournament' was held for 5th-year students and above with 8th grade or above in mental arithmetic.

The Junior Maths Meijin Tournament is open only under 4th-year students and below with 6dan or above.

The competition attracts the school's top class of players and is one of the events that attract a lot of attention every year.目

The competition includes print events such as multiplication and division, reading, and flash calculation.

The 'Master' and 'Junior Maths Master' were decided.ひらめき電球

This year's Master of school is Rion SHII

It is Shiii's third time winning a Master of the school.びっくりキラキラ

Only three other players besides Shiii have won Master more than three times.

Incidentally, Shiii won the Gakuen Meijin three days before the high school entrance exam.

Next year, will Shiii win his fourth Master?

Or will other players prevent him from doing so?びっくりマーク

 Kentaro Nemoto, Junior Maths Master

He was the winner of last year's Christmas Cup English Reading and Arithmetic Competition, 3rd and 4th Grade, Japan.

It is an excellent achievement following the "Christmas Cup English Reading and Arithmetic Competition for 3rd and 4th graders" held at the end of last year.クラッカー

The Junior Maths Meijin Tournament continues to attract newcomers one after another, and we cannot take our eyes off the competition.目

Both players had their ups and downs, but they showed us a great battle right through to the end.クラッカー

The individual all-around competition, the reading and mental arithmetic competition, and the reading and arithmetic competition

The 'individual all-around competition' was a 10-round competition in each category.

In the individual all-around competition, ten competitors in each category were selected from the winners.

The competitors compete in each category, and their ranking is decided.

The competitors have won their way through the qualifying rounds, so the speed from the start to raising the hand is very high.!!

There is a different kind of tension than usual.

Each competitor gave it their all and fought their way through.合格

The "Reading and Mental Arithmetic" and "Reading and Arithmetic" competitions are each based on a one-arithmetic-drop system.

The competition starts with easy problems, but it is a tough battle where no mistake is allowed!

Even in Grade 2 and under the category, there was a high level of competition, with correct answers to problems involving 5-9 digits in reading mental arithmetic and 7-16 numbers in reading arithmetic.びっくり

The ranking of all competitions is then used to determine the points.びっくりマーク

This year's grand prize winner is...

Kamagaya Classroomクラッカークラッカー

Kamagaya Classroom, where the athletes who won Japan's top prize at the national competition, also competed.びっくり

The students competed as one and successfully regained the grand prize for the first time in two years!クラッカー

The students, contestants, cheering parents and teachers worked together in this school festival.

The athletes put in much effort every day and gave it their all.

The students cheered us on in the classrooms.

Thanks to everyone's support, parents and guardians who always warmly cooperate with us. We could not have held this event without you.花

We look forward to seeing many smiling faces on a new stage next year!ニコニコ飛び出すハート
