地震の教訓

3月11日、東北地方を中心に巨大な地震が発生しました。

こちら東京も震度５で、かなり揺れました。

今、午前1時50分ですが、会社にいます。

JRが終日運転を取り止めたため、帰宅困難者になってしまいました。

地震発生時は、お客様訪問で新宿近くにいました。

地下鉄で電車を待っていたら、大きな揺れが・・・

一緒にいた上司と慌てて地上に出ました。

地下鉄は止まると判断し、バスで新宿駅へ。

新宿駅では、券売機はシャッターが下りていました。

はっきりした情報を聞かなくても電車が止まっていることは一目瞭然。

バスで移動するしかない！

交番で浜松町方面のバスがあるか聞いたら、品川駅行があるとのこと。

長蛇の列でしたが、他に手段がないので、並びました。

１台目のバスは満員で乗れませんでした。

２台目のバスを20分くらい待って、乗りました。

ここで教訓

大地震が発生したら、電車は止まる。

早めにバスに乗るべし。

交番でバス乗り場を教えてくれます。

さて、品川駅行のバスに乗ったはいいけれど、大渋滞でなかなか進みません。

結局、品川駅まで3時間くらいかかりました。

途中から座れたのでラッキーでしたが、ずっと立っていた皆様、運転手様、お疲れさまでした。

大混雑の品川駅。

ここから浜松町まで歩くことを覚悟して、その前にトイレを探しました。

ショッピングエリアのトイレは列ができています。

でも、ホテルのトイレは空いていました。

トイレの入り口が目立たないせいかもしれません。

ここで教訓

トイレが混んでいるときは、ホテルの方も見てみましょう。

災害時なら利用させてもらえると思います。

結局、品川駅まで来たものの、JRは前面ストップしてしまったので、浜松町まで歩くことに。2時間ほど歩きました。都内の移動に正味6時間くらいかかりました。

外にいると、意外と情報が入らないもの。

いろいろな人にバスや電車の情報を教えてもらいました。

デパートの店員さん

チケット会社の社員さん

交番のおまわりさん

ホテルの受付係りさん

コンビニの店員さん

バスに乗り合わせた人　などなど

お世話になりました。

今回の地震では、東北地方をはじめ、多くの地域で被災された方がいらっしゃいます。

Carnival in Rio

今回はリオのカーニバルの由来とヨーロッパのカーニバルについてです。当社講師のウィリーに書いてもらいました。面白いですよ～

At the moment the famous carnival in Rio de Janeiro has begun. Most people know about the carnival because TV loves to show pictures of thousands of people dancing in the street having a good time. However carnival is not only limited to Rio, it is celebrated in slightly different forms in many parts of Europe.

Carnival is a very old tradition. It always takes places in the beginning of spring but not always on the same day (based on a moon calendar). We know that the arrival of spring was celebrated thousands of years ago all over Europe. The direct predecessor of carnival we find in the Greek and Roman world. The Romans had a festival called Saturnalia, which took place around the same time as our carnival today. Saturnalia was a week long party in which the rules of society were turned upside down. For example slaves would be served food by their masters instead of the other way around. I think the slaves still had to do the dishes though. Basically it was a week of food, drinks and fun, the Romans, like present day Italians, loved a good party.

Later the Romans became Christian and they couldn’t celebrate the Saturnalia festival anymore. However everybody loved the festival so they pretty much decided to make it a Christian festival. There are two important Christian holidays: Christmas and Easter. The last 40 days before Easter people are not allowed to eat meat. The Romans scheduled Easter in such a way that it fell around 40 days after Saturnalia. In one word a brilliant move. Now they could claim Saturnalia was a Christian festival and everybody was happy. The name carnival comes from the Latin carne vale, which means goodbye to meat.

Ever since, carnival has been a very popular festival all over Europe and later Latin America. Every country has a different variation but some things they have in common. People dress up in costumes and then they have a five day long party.
