その後のDJよりも喋り言葉に近いDJを
歌ものの上でも構わず乗せるやり方が、今聞いても刺激的
本名エワート・ベックフォード、1942年キングストン生まれ
1967年キング・タビーのシステム【ホームタウン Hi-Fi】の専属DJとして、本格的にキャリアをスタートさせる。
そのオリジナリティー溢れる斬新なスタイルから爆発的な人気を獲得した
U-ROYの登場（＝“DJスタイル”の誕生）はとてつもなく大きなインパクトをシーンに与え、
これまでのジャマイカ・ミュージック・シーンを一変させるほどであった。
そして、1970年世界初となるDJアルバム『Version Galore』(Treasure Isle/JA)のリリースから、
現在に至るまで幾度となく進化を遂げながら継承された“DJスタイル”は、
ブジュ・バントンやシズラなど、世界的なスーパースター達へのルーツとなり、
“彼の存在なくして現在のシーンなし”と言っても過言ではない。
まさに真の始祖であり、生きる伝説の人物なのである。
衰え知らずの現在進行形の現役である事を証明している。
