More than it already is?

Personally It would motivate me, but I understand that it's possible that some people wouldn't be motivated.

To answer this, you should be consistently matched with people of around the same ranking as you, and as such if your ranking is higher than it should be, you should lose
(just as it is now). Until you get to the theoretical ideal of a place where you win 50 of your games.

The improvement that I am suggesting is not to stop people from feeling bad about losing, I don't think any change could fix that. I am instead suggesting that there should be more feedback about how well your doing in the game instead of a somewhat arbitrary league and division system. Top 8 platinum in one division could be a lot worse than the top 8 platnium of another division. Seeing that you are rank 52 300, and seeing that your opponent is rank 54 500 gives you a quick and more accurate indication about your skill level in comparison to your opponents. In my opinion seeing this rank change and gradually improve over time is a more rewarding experience, and a more captivating experience than the league and division systems that are in place now.
