Here’s how to do just that:1. Start with your right foot on the 25th board, counting from right to left(refer to Figure 10-4).The 25th board from the right is also the third dot from the right.2. Keep your eyes on the second arrow from the right on the lane. This is also known as the tenth board because there are arrows everyfive boards.3. Begin your approach to the foul line, focusing on that second arrow.Your arm should push out and back while you’re taking your stepsto throw the ball; see Chapter 6 for more information on making yourapproach.Your goal is to throw the ball so it rolls directly over the second arrow,so don’t look at the pins. Doing so will only throw you off.4. Turn your hand and wrist as the ball comes forward and release itonto the lane as it reaches your left ankle. Are you in the position to shake someone’s hand after you’ve releasedthe ball (meaning your thumb is pointing straight up)? If so, yourhand is in the correct spot, and your ball should roll over that secondarrow, curve, and hit the 1-3 pocket. (Of course, whether it does this alldepends on how much spin you’ve put on the ball as well as your powerand speed.)5. Follow through on your approach and watch as all the pins fall down.If you’re a left-handed hook bowlerA lefty who throws a hook should follow these steps to hit the 1-2 pocket:1. Place your left foot on the 25th board from the left (see Figure 10-5).The 25th board from the left is also the third dot from the left.2. Focus your eyes on the second arrow from the left on the lane.3. Start your four-step approach to the foul line, keeping your eyes gluedon the arrow rather than the pins.Head to Chapter 6 for the how-to on making your approach.Make sure you prepare to throw the ball with enough power and speedso it rolls over the second arrow and curves to hit the pins.
