ディクシー・チックス（Dixie Chicks）はアメリカ合衆国出身のエミリイ・ロビスン（Emily Robison）、マーティ・マグワイア（Martie Maguire）とナタリイ・メインズ（Natalie Maines）からなるカントリー・ミュージックの3人組グループである。カントリーだけではなく、全ての音楽ジャンルで販売枚数が最も多い女性グループである。[1]
ディクシー・チックスは1989年にテキサス州のダラスで結成され、数年の下積み時代とメンバー変更を経て、1990年代末にカントリイとポップ両ジャンルで成功を収めた。
また、2003年12月24日のブッシュ大統領が行ったイラク戦争を批判したリード・ヴォーカルのナタリイ・メインズの公共の場での批判はそのグループを巻き込む大きな論争となった。
初期
ディクシー・チックスは、ダラス郊外にあるテキサス州アディソンのグリーンヒル・スクール卒業生であったマーティ&エミリイ・エルウィン姉妹、ローラ・リンティ（Laura Lynch）、ロビン・リン・メイシー（Robin Lynn Macy）の4名によって結成された。エルビン姉妹は結婚し、マーティ・マグワイアとエミリー・ロビスンとなった。エルビン姉妹は主に楽器を、リンチとメイシーはヴォーカルを担当。
彼女たちはブルーグラスサウンドを主にして活動を開始、1990年にインディーズ・レーベル「クリスタル・クリア・サウンド（Crystal Clear Sound）」からファーストアルバム（女性演奏者デール・エバン（Dale Evans）にちなんで）『Thank Heavens for Dale Evans』を発表。前年にはマーティが全米バイオリンチャンピオンシップで3位を獲得、またディクシー・チックスとしてもテルライドブルーグラス祭（Telluride Bluegrass Festival）で最優秀バンド賞を獲得したり、リーバ・マッキンタイアとジョージ・ストレイト、ガース・ブルックスの前座を務めた。しかし、彼女たちの曲は公共放送以外で放送されることはなかった。チックスは1991年末にクリスマス・シングル「Home on the Radar Range」を発表。そして1992年にはセカンド・アルバム『Little Ol' Cowgirl』を発表。スチールギター奏者として有名だったロイド・メインズ（Lloyd Maines）との競演を果たし、そしてセカンド・アルバムの一部では現代的なカントリーサウンドにも挑戦した。ディクシー・チックスはテキサスとナッシュビル周辺の様々なイベントに出演し続けた。しかしダラス以外でのラジオ放送はなく、商業的な成功を収めるられずに終わった。
しかるのち、ロビン・リン・メイシーは音楽の方向性の不一致のために1992年末に脱退した。だがグループは引き続きダラスにて活動を続けた。
チックスはトリオとなり、1993年に3枚目のアルバムをリリースした。『Shouldn't a Told You That』はリンチのリード・ヴォーカルを全面的に押し出し、ブルーグラスの要素を少なくした。継続的にツアーを行い、クリントン大統領の就任式やCBS This Morningのような注目度の高いイベントにも出演したが、ヒットには恵まれなかった。[2]新しいシンガーと商業的成功
1995年末に、以前に共演したロイド・メインズをプロデューサーとして迎えた。また、ローラ・リンチはプロデューサーの娘であるナタリイ・メインズにチェンジした。同時期にソニーはチックスをスカウトし、新しいレーベルであるモニュメント・レコード（Monument Records）の所属となった。

高級コンパクトデジカメの雄 Canon PowerShot G1 X
高級コンパクトデジカメの雄として君臨しているPowerShot G シリーズの新型がでます。
今までは、コンパクトさを売りにしている S シリーズと内容がほとんど変わらないけど、操作感が一眼に近いという位置づけに過ぎなかった両者の差別化をキッチリ図ったラインナップになります。
コスト面では大変負荷の高い構成ですので、かなり力の入った製品だと言えるでしょう。
上記、レビューを見る限り、ミラーレス一眼に遜色ない絵作りが出来るようです。良い感じだと思います。
ただ、従来のコンデジでは当たり前のように出来たことが出来なくなっているようです。
それは接写です。
一眼使いには、内容からいって、まぁしゃぁないか・・・と言う感じがしますが（両立しないのですよ）、一眼を使わずコンデジ一辺倒で使い倒している人は、直近まで寄って撮影できないことに戸惑うかもしれません。
ぼくの印象としては、メモ替わりの記録は携帯で充分なので、こういう路線もありかと思いますけどね。
そういう意味ではＳ１００は完全に携帯と被るでしょう。ぼくはここで何度も紹介しているように、此の機械は大好きです。けど・・・・この路線は、あんまり将来性はないと思います。
要は、一眼までは必要ないけれど、一眼の描画性能は欲しいという人や、一眼のサブカメラとして使う人にとっては良いものになるんじゃないでしょうか。
作品としての性能で目を引くのはボケ味の違いです。センサーが大きくなっているので主題以外をぼかすことが出来るようになりました。
記念撮影じゃなくって、ポートレイト作品が撮れると言うことを意味します。
これは、従来のコンデジではひっくり返っても出来ないことです。
＜G1 X＞望遠112ミリ相当、絞りF5.8で撮影。
F4.5 まで開ければもう少しぼけます。
前のモデル＜G12＞『G12』の作例。『G1 X』同等の画角と絞りで撮影。
如何にもコンデジ風のボケのなさです。ぼくは、本来、こっちの方が好きなのです。
携帯の性能が上がった今、敢えてコンデジを持つ意味は、やはり、携帯では撮れない一眼みたいなの描画が欲しいをいうことになると思います。キヤノンの今回の判断は、製品ラインナップとして適切なものだと思いました。
ただ、ミラーレスが今後一眼を食うと判断するかどうかが問題です。
ぼくは、少量のマニアックな層と量販出来る層を明確に区別化して分かり易いラインナップを構築するのが一番大事なことのように思えます。
多分ね、今回のニコンの機械で技術的にはおそらく天井でしょう。
