１９８８年、４thアルバム「Confesstions of A Pop Group」を発表。
スティーヴ・ホワイト(ds)が脱退して３人組での作品。Ａ面に「Piano Paintings」、Ｂ面に「Confession Of A Pop Group」と題して作られており、それぞれ全く異なる音楽スタイルがとられている。

１９８９年、製作中の新作「Modernism: A New Decade」からのシングルとして【Promised Land】をリリース（結局、この新作には収録されていない）。
「オーイェー、オーイェー」と掛け声をかけるポール・ウェラーの姿に衝撃を受けたファンが多かっただろう。今度はダンサブルなハウスを取り入れたスタカンはもはやオシャレなグループではなくなった。結局この新作はあまりにも従来のイメージとかけ離れていたためか、レコード会社が発売を拒否。しばらくオクラ入りとなるが、１９９８年、BOXセットに含まれて発表され、その後日本のみ単品で発売された。

１９９０年、解散を発表。あらゆる音楽ジャンルにアプローチしたスタカンは、当時正当に評価されなかった３rd、４thともに再評価の動きが広がっている。
