コクチイシナギ Stereolepis gigas は太平洋東部のカリフォルニアからメキシコ沿岸に生息する。
オオクチイシナギ S. doederleini より大型になり，体長2.5ｍ，体重255kgの記録を持つという。
Benseman (2017, 2018) によると，コクチイシナギ仔魚の浮遊生活期間は 26.8±2.4 日，着底サイズは全長 14.4±3.0 mm（標準体長 10.6±2.5 mm）と推定された。
コクチイシナギ稚魚（上：Benseman, 2017）はオクチイシナギ稚魚（下：小嶋原図）に比べて，腹鰭が大きく長い。
魚類検索三版（2013）によると，コクチイシナギの日本からの記録はほとんどなく，西部太平洋での報告（相模湾：Hilgendorf, 1878とピーター大帝湾：Lindberg and Krasyukova, 1969）は，オオクチイシナギの老成魚である可能性も含め，検討が必要であるとされており，日本には分布しない可能性が高い。
