お話しする家族以外の大人、と言えば患者さんです。

 

患者さんの笑顔を引き出そう、励まそう!と思っているのですが、

「先生、あきらめないで!頑張ってくださいねっ!」と応援されました。

 

なんだか、正直に、嬉しかったです。

If patients have used anti-anxiety drugs (what we call minor tranquilizers),

they tend to want to get them. They say that they need minor tranquilizers.

However, sometimes they are inappropriate for these patients' treatment. Anti-anxiety drugs are not curative treatment toward the diagnoses above. They are only symptomatic treatment.

 

Let's imagine a patient with bacterial pneumonia. He has a high fever, severe cough and so on because of inflammation in his lung. In this case, an antipyretic is used just as a symptomatic treatment, and when its effect is wearing off, his fever will rise again. Suitable antibiotics are necessary as a curative treatment. Probably you can understand it easily. From that point of view, antianxiety drugs act like antipyretics, and anti-depressants act like antibiotics.
