Hitoshi Matsumoto, a comedian from Osaka, has fallen on hard times.
So, there are people who are planning to strike back not only against Kansai-based comedians but also against "Osaka" as a whole.

On its cover, Shukan Gendai has capitalized the phrase "Osaka Girai" (Osaka hatred).
In addition, the subtitle of the magazine read, "The Failure of Japan's No. 1 Commercial and Cultural City.
This was Tokyo's way of picking a fight with Osaka.

Many of Japan's best-known companies have come out of Osaka.
They think freely without being bound by common sense, put their ideas first, and do so without hesitation.
Thanks to this mentality, Osaka has produced many great business people since the Meiji era.

In the world of entertainment, manzai (comedic storytelling) has dominated the field.
Tokyo's rakugo had become so pungent with its chic and stylish style that it was only natural that the masses would drift away from it.

When the manzai boom came, it not only drove out the rakugo artists, but also swept over all television entertainment programs.
All that appeared on the screen were comedians who spoke in Osaka dialect.

Tokyoites must have been inwardly uncomfortable with this.
At the peak of the prosperity of Osaka comedians, Matsumoto-san's incident fell upon them.
The Tokyoites were delighted and said, "You've seen that! the Tokyoites rejoiced, and the headline in the Weekly Gendai became.

I don't question the merits of the traditional "belief" of comedians that "a comedian is only as good as the number of women he has and the number of comedies he puts on.
But didn't Mr. Matsumoto realize that in the compliance-driven country of Japan, doing so can be fatal?
This is what I mean by "the enemy of caution.

Even though the Matsumoto incident has made Tokyoites feel better, rakugo will never be restored.
There is no way that Tokyo people will ever be able to match the Osaka people, who rush forward without hesitation, never holding back, and competing only on the basis of their true feelings.

Tokyoites are basically a race of people who look down on those below them and are willing to bow down to those above them.
Even ordinary citizens blatantly discriminate against people based on where they live in Tokyo.
There is no way such people can compete with the leopard print-wearing ladies of Osaka.

Even if they fail at the Expo, Osaka's future is bright!
Osaka comedians will make a joke out of mocking the Expo and have another laugh.
