Please allow me to talk about actress Yoko Yamamoto, who passed away at the age of 81 on February 20th. Although there is quite an age difference between us, she was a senior from my high school. One memory that comes to mind is when she visited Kokugakuin High School's cultural festival. She was walking in front of me along with our biology teacher. Whenever I see Yamamoto-san on screen, I remember that moment. I can't say it feels like yesterday, but it's a memory that sticks with me. I can't recall the biology teacher's name, but I wonder if they were Yamamoto-san's homeroom teacher. She seemed to be enjoying their conversation a lot. Just now on "Tetsuko's Room," they were showing videos in memory of Yamamoto-san. In one of them, she mentioned, "My high school, Kokugakuin, was very strict. Boys and girls were not allowed to walk side by side. There were teachers on the school route standing and checking on us." That's right, it was very strict. However, in our time, there wasn't much of a fuss if boys and girls walked together. Girls were just not allowed to wear a bras-chemise underwear in the summer. The reason given was that it was not educationally appropriate, but I couldn't understand it. The most annoying rule was that girls had to braid their hair once they entered the school. If you didn't have braided hair, you would be checked and scolded at the school gate. There was no student council because they believed students wouldn't think of anything good if given too much freedom. It's unimaginable now, and I think today's Kokugakuin High School is not like that. When I visited as an adult, I felt a sense of freedom in the school atmosphere. My story is from the Showa era, so please understand it correctly. I pray for her soul to rest in peace.
2月20日に81歳で亡くなられた女優の山本陽子さんの話をさせてください。
彼女とは歳はだいぶ離れていますけれどの高校の先輩です。
思い出すのは、私の母校、国学院高校の文化祭だったかなぁ、山本さんが國校に遊びにいらして、生物の先生と一緒に私の前を歩いていらしたこと。昨日のように・・・とまでは言いませんが、山本さんをスクリーンで見るたびにその時のことを思い出します。生物の先生の名前も忘れてしまったけど、山本さんの担任の先生だったのかなぁ。とても楽しそうにお話しされていました。先ほど、徹子の部屋で、山本さんを偲ぶ映像が流れていましたが、その中で、「私の高校、国学院はすごく厳しくて、男子と女子が一緒に並んで歩いてはいけないとか、通学路に生徒指導の先生方が立っておられてチェックしている」とおっしゃっている回がありました。
そうなんですよ。とっても厳しかった。でも、付き合っている男女がならんで歩いても、私たちの時代は特にお咎めもなかったです。ただ、女子は、夏場はブラスリ禁止でした。教育上良くないという理由だったんですが、納得できませんでした。一番嫌だったのは、女子は入学したら三つ編みにしないといけなかったのです。三つ編みにしていないと学校の正門のところでチェックされ怒られます。生徒を自由にすると碌なことを考えないというので、生徒会がなかったです。今じゃ考えられませんし、今の国学院高校はそんなことはないと思います。大人になってから、遊びに行った時、自由な校風を感じました。私の話は、昭和の話ですから、誤解のないようにお願いします。
