中国河南東方の世界文化遺産「天地之中」
崇山という山の麓にあるこの遺産は、何故世界の中心とされているのか…由来は3000年前に遡ります。
『周公測景台』は影の長さにより天文を観測し「暦」を定める「天文台」です。
紀元前11世紀、周の武王を補佐した「周公旦」が造り、後の「唐」の時代に石で復元されました。
「周」は当時の都「鎬京」から中原の中心地で商業の発展した「洛陽」に遷都しようとしていました。ところが反対者が続出。そこで「周公旦」は『測景台』を使って「天地の中心を見つけたし、洛陽こそ天地の中心に近い」と主張して反対者を説得しました。
以後、数千年にわたってこの地が「天地之中」とされてきた所以であります。
