アメリカ民謡 「コロラドの月」Moonlight on the Colorado

1930年に発表された比較的新しい曲ですが、ほとんどアメリカ民謡のように歌われています。ロバート・A・キングの晩年の作品で、彼は発表から２年後に亡くなっています。

曲に歌われているコロラド川は、ロッキーマウンテン国立公園内に源を発し、南西に流れてカリフォルニア湾に注ぎます。かつては大河でしたが、灌漑のため、途中でどんどん水を取られ、流れが痩せてきました。

　曲は当初、カントリー・ウェスタン風に歌われていましたが、次第にムードミュージックないしイージーリスニング風に歌われるようになりました。
