Sendagaya Style.
Last week, one of my friend 'Masato san' went back to Japan...
Since I respect his personality, I really miss him. He was in the same school
as me and I met him by chance on my first day to go to school.
January 30th,2010,his Japanese quar・tet 'Sendagaya Style' gave a public performance
at Carnegie Hall as his compilation of NY life. I have known that he is a professional
opera singer, but it was first time to listen his serious singing voice.
It was fascinating and amazing!!
Actually, I don't know about opera at all, but their expressions are fabulous.
I got good experience, and I really hope that they play active parts in the opera world.
僕が今の語学学校に初めて行った日に、学校の近くのChinese restaurantで偶然出会ったオペラシンガーの
マサトさんが先週帰国してしまいました。マサトさんとは同じ学校でこの半年間仲良くしてもらっていたので
かなり寂しいですが…
１月３０日にマサトさんの日本で活動しているカルテットメンバーを招いて、コンサートが行われ見に行って
来ました。場所はカーネギーホール。
「すごかった…」
ただただ、感動するばかりで、僕は今までオペラなんて見たことないので（今回のはオペラじゃないそうですが）
全く深くは分かりませんが、とにかくブラボー！でした。
このマサトさん、すごい経歴の持ち主で、NYにも文化庁から新進芸術家在外研修員として来ていたのです。

たぶん日本で普通に生活していたら出会わなかったであろう人種の一人です。
自分の分野とは全く違う世界の人ですが、こうして偶然にも出会って友達になれた事に感謝です。
NYならではの出会い。
今後の日本での活躍が楽しみです☆
Damien Hirst：End of an Era.
I have been very busy these days...but I'm enjoying my NY life!
Today, I went to the Gagosian Gallery to see an exhibition of new paintings and
sculpture by Damien Hirst who is reputed to be the richest living artist in the world
to date.( honestly, I didn't know about him at all...)
He makes various type of art like paintings, sculpture, plastic arts, etc...
This gallery presented some pictures of jewels, some object, and some animals.
He became famous for a series in which dead animals (including a shark, a sheep and
a cow) are preserved. I saw the exhibition of a severed bull's head with golden horns
and crowned with a solid gold disc at this gallery. I wanted to think it was artificial one,
but was not..
I didn't understand at all how Hirst felt about it.The cut end of a bull's head is cruel
and grotesque. So, I don't think it's a part of art even if the bull wasn't killed to be an
art. The other exhibition which is a picture fulled of a lot of butterflies looks strange
for me. He put hundred of wings of butterflies on a campus symmetrically.
Should the genius artist is abnormal against moral? I don't really know...

今日Dammien Hirstっていう今、世界で最もリッチなアーティストと呼ばれている人の
Exhibitionを見に行ってきました。（僕は全然知らなかったんですが…）
彼はペインティング、彫刻、造形など様々な形のアートを造りだしているんですが、
今回のこのGagosian Galleryに展示されていたのは、有名なダイアモンドのペインティング、
３０フィートもの金のキャビネットに並べられた３０００個近い造り物のダイヤモンドのオブジェ、
薬品棚にシステマティックに並べられた薬品の瓶、箱のインスタレーション、白いキャンバスに
カラフルな色の斑点を規則的に配するスポット・ペインティング、無数の蝶の羽をキャンパスに
貼り付けたシンメトリーの絵画、そして牛の頭…
彼の作品の象徴ともされている死んだ動物を使ったアート（？）の一つで、本物のBullの頭を切り落として
ホルマリン漬けにしているガラスケース。（写真 左）
死んだ動物を使ったアートには、不可避である「生」と「死」を考える意図があると記されているんですが、
これがアートと呼べるのかどうか。。。僕には全く理解できない世界でした。
もちろん自分の作品の為に殺した動物ではないにしても、自分のエゴの為に動物の「死」をさらし者に
する事が表現の仕方だと言えるのか。
天才的なアーティストというものは、モラルに反してアブノーマルであるべきなのか？
色々と考えさせられた１日でした。
Bauhaus in MoMA.
Some days ago, I went to MoMA again to see the exhibitions of Bauhaus.
Of course on Friday...but there were a lot of peple and they had gotten a long long
line because of the free tickets day. As I mentioned before in this blog, most of
the museums in NY would be free admissions depends on the date even it's holding
very famous exhibitions like Bauhaus. That's one of the advantages living in NY.
Anyway, the exhibitions were very interesting and exciting for me.
この前、３度目のＭｏＭＡに行ってきました。Ｂａｕｈａｕｓ展を見に。
もちろん金曜日の４：００ｐｍ以降で…入場料タダなんで☆
前回入った時は、１Ｆのエントランスホールで列に並んだんですが、今回はＴｉｍ Ｂｕｒｔｏｎ展も
やってたせいか、外部に並ばされ、6ｔｈ Aveをグルッと周る程の混雑ぶり。。。
次の機会にしようかとも思いましたが、せっかくなので並んだら意外とすんなり入れました。
しかし、こんなスゴイ展示がタダで気軽に見れるのはNYに住んでる最大の特権ですね。
MoMAに限らず、様々な美術館が曜日によってDonationだったりFreeだったり、アートに根付いた
街だとつくづく感じます。
今回は人も多かったので、Bauhausだけ見てさっさと帰っちゃったので、またいつかの金曜日に
Tim Burton展をフラッと見に行きます。なんて贅沢☆
でも、そろそろ新しいSpotを開拓しないと、最近行くところがローテーション化している気がします。
Midtown, Downtownの一部良く知ってる所ばかりをブラブラしてるので、Uptownとかはほとんど
無知です…
