coffee and cake were a most necessary
antidote to what you had just gone
through. Gratefully we followed the
smell and found ourselves in a very
elegant, rather crowded restaurant. We
were shown to a table, and very soon
we noticed two things. Although the big
room was full, there was only a distant
murmur to be heard, everybody was
talking low, and——no one smoked.
