he became an authority. He knew not only the battle,
movements, campaigns, but also the units involved,
down to the regiments, their colonels and where they
originated. And from telling he became convinced
that he had been there.

サイラスの地理に関する知識は心もとないもので、
戦役に関する情報も、それまでは全く実体がなかっ
た； さて今回は、サイラスはその道の権威を得た．
彼は交戦、作戦行動、戦役のみならず、戦役に関係
した部隊は連隊にまで下位分類ができたし、その指
揮官が誰であるかも言えたし、さらに彼らの出身地ま
でもさえ言えた．さらに語り口調から察するに、サイ
ラスは自分自身がその場に存在したという確信さえ
もっていたようである．
