It stopped in the evening. It was a rasping nervous
wind, and the dust particles cut into a man's skin and
burned his eyes. Men working in the fields wore goggles
and tied handkerchiefs around their noses to keep the
dirt out.

風は夕方になると静まった。 それは軋るようで耳障りな
音を立てる風だった。 砂塵が肌や、目に切り込むように
入った。畑仕事をするには、ゴーグルを掛ける必要があった。
そしてハンカチを鼻の周りに結んでおかなくては、埃から
鼻を守ることが出来まなかったのだ。
