would のほうは、船乗りになれればよかったのだ、という
希望が混ざります．過去における未来だから、意思や希望
が入りこみます．

to befal me.
父はとても古風な人でしたが、私には、
家庭教育に於いて、また国の学費無料の
教育一般にに関する限りで、そこそこの
学問を私に与えて、法律家にしようと企
てたのでした．だけど私はただ船乗りに
なることで満足でした．
