As I was about to be flung out for the last time, the master
of the house appeared, complaining of the noise and
demanding an explanation.
それは、おさんに、また投げ出されようとした、そのとき、
この家の主人が現れて、騒ぎの原因を聞かせろと言ったんだ。

The servant lifted me up, turned my face to the master
and said "This little stray kitten is being a nuisance.
I keep putting it out and it keeps crawling back into the
kitchen."
女中はボクを持ち上げて、ボクの顔を回して、ご主人の
方へ向けた。
「このチビの捨てネコが邪魔をするんです。
私が外へ出しても、また台所に入って来るものですから。」

The master briefly studied my face, twisting the black
hairs under his nostrils.
主人は、自分の鼻の孔の下の黒ひげをひねりながら、
ざっとボクの顔を点検した。

Then "In that case, let it stay," he said; and
went inside.
それから、「そういうことなら、置いてやれ。」そう言って
中に入っていった。

The master seemed to be a person of few words.
主人は口数の少ない人のようだ。

The servant resentfully threw me down in the kitchen.
おさんは、憮然とした態度でボクを台所に投げ捨てた。

And it was thus that I came to make this house my dwelling.
そういうわけで、ボクはこのお屋敷を我が住まいとしたのだった。
