And just as I was thinking that the giddiness would kill me,
I heard a thud and saw a million stars.
〇 それから、このめまいで、ボクは死んでしまうんじゃないかと
思ったそのとき、ドスンと音が聞こえて、
１００万個の星が見えた。
Thus far I can remember but, however hard I try, I cannot
recollect anything hereafter.
〇 ここまでのところは記憶にあるのだが、その先のことは
どうにか思い出そうとしても、何も覚えていない。
When I came to myself, the creature had gone.
〇 気が付いたときには、その生物はいなくなっていた。
I had at one time had a basketful of brothers,
but now not one could be seen.
〇 嘗てはカゴいっぱいに兄弟たちがいたんだけど
今は誰もいなくなってしまった。
Even my precious mother had disappeared.
〇 ボクの大事なお母ちゃんもドロンして、いなくなっていた。
Moreover I now found myself in a painfully bright place
most unlike that nook where once I'd sheltered.
〇 その上さらに、今までの奥まった隠れ場所ではなく、
今度は、ひどく明るい場所にさらけ出されていた。
It was in fact so bright that I could hardly keep my eyes open.
〇 実際、非常に明るくて、ほとんど目など開けていられなかった。
