The center of the face protrudes excessively and
sometimes, from the holes in that protuberance,
smoke comes out in little puffs.
〇 顔の真ん中が、やけに出っ張っていて、時々
その突起部の穴から,１吹き２吹きと煙が出てくる。
I was originally somewhat troubled by such exhalations
for they made me choke, but I learnt only recently that
it was the smoke of burnt tobacco which humans like
to breathe.
〇 始めのころはボクは、このような発散物にむせび
苦しめられ、困り果てていたのだが、近頃、よう
やくそれが、人間が好んで
呼吸する燃やされた煙草の煙であることがわかっ
た。
For a little while I sat comfortably in that creature's
but things soon developed at tremendous speed.
〇 しばらくの間、ボクはこの生き物の手の中に爽快に
座っていたが、
事態は、猛スピードで展開した。
I could not tell whether the shosei was in movement or
whether it was only I that moved; but anyway I began
to grow quite giddy, to feel sick.
〇 書生が動いていたのか、それとも動いていたのは、
ボクの方だったのか、何ともいえない。しかし
とにかく、めまいがして、気分が悪くなり始めた
のだった。
