２０１１年７月２５日、ですから２週間前、アメリカ政府は国際的組織犯罪についての報告を発表しました。

ホワイトハウスは７月25日、国境を越える組織犯罪への対策をまとめた戦略報告を発表しました。また大統領令では、国際社会の政治的経済的安定を脅かすものとして、日本の「YAKUZA」（暴力団）を含む４つの組織を制裁の対象とし、これらの組織との取引の禁止や米国内での資産凍結などが定められました。

日本の暴力団について、報告書では Los Zetas (Mexico)、The Brothers’ Circle
(Eurasia)、The Camorra (Italy) と共に The Yakuza (Japan) が名指しされています。
思うに、「やくざ」というのは仁義があるのですが、暴力団には仁義がありません。
報告書では「The Yakuza 」となっています。

The Yakuza (Japan)
The Yakuza comprises the major Japanese organized crime syndicates,
sometimes referred to as “families,” and had more than 80,000 members as
of 2008. The Yakuza derives most of its profits from the drug trade,
particularly methamphetamine, the most widely abused drug in Japan. The
Yakuza also profits from other serious criminal activities, including
weapons trafficking and nearly all aspects of sexual exploitation: sex
tourism, prostitution, human trafficking, “mail order” marriages,
pornography, and the exploitation of women and children, with the help of
local crime syndicates in East Asia. The Yakuza is also heavily involved in
white-collar crime, often using front companies to hide illicit proceeds
within legitimate industries, including construction, real estate and
finance.
In addition to its networks in Japan, the Yakuza acts globally. It has
relationships with criminal affiliates in Asia, Europe and the Americas. In
the United States, the Yakuza has been involved primarily in drug
trafficking and money laundering.

「The Yakuza」 は“families,”（多聞、一家の事）とも呼ばれる包括的な犯罪組織で、覚せい剤などの麻薬取引が最大の稼ぎ頭で、その他、拳銃売買、様々な性産業などから利益を稼いでいる。セックス観光、売春、人身売買、メールオーダー結婚、ポルノ、東アジアの地方犯罪組織による女性と子供からの搾取などなど。
また、「The Yakuza 」は産業、建設、不動産、金融などの合法的なフロント企業を使って不正な利益を隠している。
更にヤクザの日本におけるネットワークに加えてグローバルに行動し、アジア、欧州、南北アメリカの組織と連携している。
アメリカでは「The Yakuza 」は主として麻薬取引とマネーロンダリングに関わってきた。
