Week 3
❄️Happy Winter School! What an exciting and action-packed day we had! We kicked things off with a fun, energetic game to get everyone warmed up and moving. The students were all smiles as they got their bodies in motion! Next, we dove into our lesson plan, where the kids designed their very own 3D ornaments using Tinkercad. They worked together to map out creative designs, and the results were amazing! After that, we headed to the park for some outdoor fun. The kids loved stretching their legs, running around, and enjoying the fresh air. To wrap up the day, we explored the fascinating world of fire safety and science. And, of course, we couldn’t resist a quick marshmallow snack to celebrate all our hard work before saying goodbye. We can’t wait to see what tomorrow brings at Winter School!
Day 1
❄️It’s officially the second week of Winter School, and we started off strong! We warmed up with a fun game of Simon Says before diving into some amazing books. Then it was off to the park, where we played with friends and stretched our muscles.
After all the excitement, we enjoyed a hearty lunch to recharge before ending the day with our daily reflection. What a fantastic day! ❄️
Day 2
❄️ Today’s winter school was another big success! The students had an amazing time learning about simple machines used in ancient Egypt! They explored levers and pulleys once more and discovered how they were used. For our craft, we got creative and made our very own pyramids out of clay! Afterward, it was time to head to the park, where we stretched our legs and ran around, having tons of fun. To wrap up the day, everyone reflected on their adventures and wrote in their daily journals. ❄️

Day 4
❄️For this Thursday, we revisited how the first tribes of men endured the ice age and other environments and how they used a simple pulley system to make shelters, being able to lift even heavy materials. Students had a lot of fun making a miniature-sized shelter and then building real-life-sized shelters, using strings, ropes, and a tarp to simulate how a shelter would look and feel. Good job, everyone!❄️
Day 5
❄️Our Winter School week 1 ended on a super high note with our students visiting the embassy of Costa Rica! We learned all about their country, wildlife, and traditional foods, and we even had a Spanish lesson at the end! Children also tasted their original Pineapple juice (from a pineapple that only grows in Costa Rica!) and delicious snacks!❄️
❄️ Today was an absolute blast as we kicked off winter school! We joined forces with Togoshi Kinder 2 class, making the experience even more special. To get into the festive spirit, they let us open their storybook advent calendar, which was such a treat! Afterward, we practiced language arts phonics—a fun and engaging way for the younger students to learn. Later, we split into groups and headed to the parkThe children had so much fun running around and enjoying the outdoors! ❄️
Day 2
❄️ For today's winter course, we delve into the past and learn all about cavemen and the Ice Age.
We talked about how they used bones and animal skin to make shelters and keep warm while using simple tools to build what they needed.
After that, we could see what the real stone tools looked like and how they could actually cut! Just like a knife! We then made our craft version of a stone tool and had a blast playing with it! Going to the park and making lots of crafts ended the winter course on a high note!❄️
Day 3
❄️Today's winter school was very fun since we joined our Kindergarten friends for a day full of fun activities and learning. We started by practicing spelling using art! Writing is easier when we have fun with it!
After that, we went back in time again to visit the first humans and learn how they used simple machines, like the wedge (sharp edges), to help them survive and improve their life quality. We worked in groups and came up with different tools that used wedges. Students had fun banging rocks together and getting a bit of a feel on how these first humans did.❄️
Day 4🍹🌞
Let’s get into our last nasty classroom adventure!
This week has been filled with all sorts of yucky topics, from boogers, to pimples, to burps! Well today we talk about by far the yuckiest things about our bodies: pooping! While poop is extremely gross, the process our bodies undergo to create it is one of the most helpful systems keeping us going. As food travels through our bodies, it is broken down, leaving helpful nutrients and chemicals to be distributed around our body. After all that, moisture is removed, and what we’re left with is poop! With that being said, poop is incredibly fascinating across different animals, like how wombat poop hard cubes, or how elephants’ contain so much fiber that we can literally make paper from it. That led us into our activity today: making poop, and then eating it! Don’t worry! None of it is real poop. Everything was made from oatmeal, water, and cocoa powder. We used this combination to form it into the shape of various animals’ excrement, and then played a guessing game of which one belonged to which. And then everyone ate theirs of course.
See you all tomorrow for the poop museum!
Day 5😎⛱🍉🌻
It’s excursion day!
Today, we made a long, exciting trip over to the Unko Museum in Odaiba, as a truly perfect conclusion to our yucky week. Everyone had tons of fun playing poop-based games while shouting “unko!” at the top of their lungs. We even got to see the fabled poop volcano erupt. To cap off this adventure, we ended things with a little pizza party! We’d like to take this time to thank all the wonderful teachers and students who helped to make all the fun we’ve had at summer school!
Hope we can see each other again for more exciting adventures in the future!🍧🌈
Day 1🍹🌞
Today, our topic of discussion was the immune system. You know, that part of our bodies that keeps us happy and healthy! The immune system is a very clever automated response that our bodies have for dealing with pesky invaders. It has the ability to differentiate our own cells and good bacteria from bad cells and dangerous bacteria. There are a variety of functions carried out by different areas of our immune system, such as white blood cells that attack and destroy invading germs or mucosa that captures those germs before they are caught and destroyed. Speaking of mucosa, we made some for our activity today! Well, more specifically we made fake mucous or booger slime. Everyone made theirs with a combination of water, multi-purpose glue, and food coloring. They all turned out wonderfully gross and slimy!
Can’t wait to see what more exciting things we get up to tomorrow!
Day2😎⛱🍉🌻
Today, we explored the easiest organ we can see every day, the skin! Skin is the outer layer of our bodies that protects us from the outside elements. It is comprised of three layers: the epidermis, the dermis, and the subcutaneous layer. These layers contain our hair, sweat glands, and fat. For our skin to stay healthy so it can keep protecting us, we should take care to clean it, moisturize it, and protect it from the sun outside. If we don’t, we could end up developing acne and other skin problems. This leads us into our activities today on sunscreen and pimples. The first involved us rubbing sunscreen on black paper and seeing how the rest of the paper is affected compared to the sunscreen part after being left in the sun. The second involved us using slime and paper to make a foldable paper pimple we could pop! It was absolutely gross and fun!
Let’s see what new discoveries we’ll find tomorrow!
Day 3🍧🌈
Remember how we discussed the digestive system last week? Well, today was a bit of a continuation from that, as we talked about burping. Burping occurs as a result of excess air we take into our stomachs. When enough builds up, we burp! To demonstrate this, we did a little experiment using vinegar and baking soda. To do this, we stuck a balloon filled with baking soda onto a balloon filled with vinegar. When the baking soda dropped into the vinegar, so much gas was produced that it pushed all of the air into the balloon, blowing it up instantly, just like a burp! Of course, all the gas really smelled like vinegar too, making it just as stinky as a burp.
Tomorrow will be our last activity day before the Poop Museum, so don’t miss it!
Day 4🍹🍉
Hello GG families! Has everyone prepared their yukata and jinbei?
Today’s the final day before the summer festival! We’re finally putting the finishing touches on everything. Our booths are absolutely Caribbean now, completely covered in tropical flowers and fruits. We finished our smoothie testing today, deciding on a berry pineapple mango smoothie and a mango pineapple apple juice smoothie. We want to thank everyone for their hard work with preparations. Now all that’s left is to have fun!
Day 5🍇🍏🍊
Hello GG families! It’s summer festival day!
Our friends in summer school had an incredible time coming together with our kindergarten friends for the festival. We all had a ton of fun playing games and eating treats, like somen, smoothies, ice cream, and much more. Some of our parents even came in to help out and join in in all of the festivities. Thanks again to our summer school friends for working extra hard on our part of the excitement!🍧
Day 1🍹
It’s festival week, and that means we’ve got a lot of preparations to do. Today we started off by discussing the human digestive system. The food we eat goes through a very complex journey through our bodies in order to be broken down and provide us with energy. From our stomach, which uses acids to break apart food, to the small intestine, which absorbs its nutrients, food needs to travel through several different organs in order to complete the process of digestion. To better visualize this, observe a model of the digestive track, which we will revisit again later in the week. For now, we switched over to booth construction! This week, we plan on host two types of booths, which are a smoothie booth and a cornhole booth. Cornhole is an outdoor game played for casual fun in American in which we try to toss beanbags into a small hole on a large board. This booth is the one we focused on constructing today. Everyone worked hard to make it super colorful and even added a little corn cob mascot to bring it all together, and it turned out amazing!
Day2🍇🍏🍊
We set up our game booth, so today, we prepared the second element of our festival space, our smoothies! We started off with a quick review of the digestive system from yesterday. Then we moved on to the much-anticipated smoothie making! We bought an assortment of fruits from mixed berries to pineapples to mangoes. Everyone took turns creating and testing out their own smoothie recipes, with everyone getting a chance to taste test them and choose which one would be best for Friday. We’re still trying out recipes, so we’ll decide on one tomorrow.
Thanks again for another great day! Can’t wait to see you all tomorrow!🌻
Day3🍉
Today, it’s our second to last prep day before the festival, so we discussed our theme for our booth. To match our tropical smoothies, we made the theme the Caribbean islands. The Caribbean islands are a series of islands located south of the United States, just below the state of Florida. They include the island of Cuba, the Bahamas, Jamaica, the Dominican Republic, and many more. We discussed a little bit about their food and culture, and then we used some of what we learned to further decorate our booth in a Caribbean style. We also put together our cornhole board.
We’re gearing up for an exciting Friday, so look forward to it!
Hello GG families! It’s another beautiful day for adventure! Today we set our eyes on the world of algae. Algae is a plant-based organism found in the sea that we usually recognize as seaweed. But there are so many different types of algae to discover, like kelp or phytoplankton. Algae also has a ton of beneficial uses for us humans that might even solve some of our environmental pollution problems, such as becoming a biodegradable alternative to plastic or an alternative fuel source. To test this out we used algae to create our own little algae-based water bottles! We created a mixture of algae and water to create little jelly blobs filled with water that we could drink and even eat. It was a blast seeing how many fun, hilarious shapes would form!🍧

Day 4🌈
Hello GG families! Happy Friday! Today our friends would have gotten a little too wet if they went to play at Rinshi no Mori Park, so we moved the party inside. We revisited yeast, talking about its use in bread, and how it releases gas upon consuming sugar, which we can also see occurring in alcohol. We then did an experiment, where we mixed yeast and sugar in a bottle with a balloon attached to see how the gas expands. Afterwards, we injected some exercise into our indoor time by doing a relay race! We created a circuit for our friends to run where they did various challenges like stacking cups and balancing balloons at each checkpoint, challenging each other to see who could complete it the fastest. We had a great, energetic, and laugh filled day. Enjoy your weekend everyone! Can’t wait to see you again next week!🌻
