今日は女性にとっても男性にとっても一大イベント、バレンタインデーですね！
海外では男女がお花やチョコレートなどの贈り物をしあったり、
恋人と素敵なディナーに出かけたりする日ですが、
日本でのユニークなバレンタインデーの祝い方は有名ですね。
そんな日本独特なバレンタインデーの祝い方を英語で説明してみましょう！
◯バレンタインデー
Valentine’s is celebrated differently in Japan than in most countries overseas.
（日本でのバレンタインは海外とは違った祝い方をします。）
Here, women prepare chocolates or other sweets for the object of their affection, as well as for the other important people in their lives.
（日本では女性が愛情や感謝の念を伝えるためにチョコレートやお菓子を贈る日となっています。）

◯義理チョコ
Giri-choco is meant to be for friends, colleagues, bosses, and close male friends.
（義理チョコは友達や同僚、上司、仲の良い男友達などに贈られます。）
“Giri” means obligation hence this Giri-choco has no romance involved.
「『義理』は義務を意味していてるので、チョコレートに恋愛感情は込められていません。）

◯本命チョコ
Honmei-choco is given to a boyfriend, lover, or husband with true love.
（本命チョコは彼氏や恋人、旦那など好きな人に贈られます。）
Japanese women often prepare the Honmei-choco by themselves as many of them think it is not true love if they just buy the ready made chocolate at shops.
（多くの日本の女性が店頭でチョコレートを買うことは本物の愛ではないと考えているため、彼女たちは本命チョコを手作りすることが多いです。）
◯ホワイトデー
What is more unique in Japan is that there exists a “White Day” which takes place on March 14th, exactly one month after Valentine’s Day.
（特に日本でユニークなのはホワイトデーの存在です。バレンタインデーの丁度1ヶ月後の3月14日に祝われます。）
On White Day men are supposed to give return gifts to women who gifted them chocolates on Valentine’s Day.
（ホワイトデーには男性が、バレンタインデーにチョコをくれた女性にお返しのギフトを贈る日です。）
More often the color of the chocolate is white because of the name of the day.
（ホワイトデーの名前から、ホワイトチョコレートであることが多いです。）
Flowers, candies and other gifts are also popular along with the chocolates.
（チョコレート以外にもお花やキャンディーなど他の贈り物も人気です。）
