実はこの本が世界最大のビジネス雑誌「Forbes」で紹介されていたのを発見しました。↓
そこで、その記事の一部を抜粋してここでご紹介していきたいと思います！

タイトル：１９世紀のアメリカの奴隷の伝記が日本のブックストアでベストセラーになったのか
◯No one imagined that the Japanese translation of the book,Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl by Harriet Ann Jacobs (1861), would become a long-selling hit in Japan when it was first published in 2013. It is the life story of a slave girl in the United States in the 1800s, and not something one would expect to strike interest in Japan, which while struggling with its own issues of race, has a 98% ethnically Japan population.
誰も、自分の人種で苦労する１８００年代アメリカの奴隷少女の物語である、著ハリエット・アン・ジェイコブス（1861年）の「Incidents In The Life Of A Slave Girl」の日本語翻訳が2013年に初めて出版されたとき、人口の９８％が日本人という日本で長く売られることになるとは思っていませんでした。

◯And the woman who would push for the book to be translated and published in Japanese, Yuki Horikoshi, had no background in literature or translation, and at first found it difficult to find a willing publisher.
その本を翻訳、出版した堀越ゆきさんは、アメリカ史や翻訳を勉強したことはほとんどなく、最初は出版することは難しいとかんがえていました。

◯She made the translation easy to follow, avoiding too many difficult kanji, so that junior high school and even bright elementary school students could easily read it.
彼女は中高生や小学生でも読めるように、難しい漢字をたくさん入れることをさけ、文章が簡単になるように翻訳しました。
◯Horikoshi feels that the book is still very relevant to Japan and the world today.
堀越さんはまだ今日でも、この物語には日本や世界と共通したものがあると感じています。
