BMW’s most expensive paint is the BMW Individual Pure Metal Silver, listed as a $10,300 option for the M6 Gran Coupe in the United States (€8,000 in Germany).
I know what you’re thinking right now, why on earth would a carmaker charge that much for a paintwork?
For starters, BMW says the paint material used to prepare this color is 40 times more expensive than regular coats. BMW describes the Pure Metal Silver color as having a chrome-like finish and extraordinary brilliance. The paint contains hundreds of thousands of ultra-thin aluminum flakes which are responsible for the uniform and gleaming surface.

日産自動車は、GT-Rに新色KABアルティメイトメタルシルバー(4M)を特別塗装色としてラインナップしている。
KABは既存のメタリック色の上にさらにメタリックを塗った構成が特徴。ベースになっているのは、K23ブリリアントシルバー。この上にクリヤーをサンドイッチして、さらに蒸着アルミを塗装、クリヤーで仕上げられている。
蒸着アルミは、基材に蒸着したアルミフレークの約1/10の厚みで、かなり表面の平滑度は高い。この顔料は緻密なアルミ配向性が得られ、磨き上げられた金属のような質感が出る。
塗装の実作業では、この配向性を実現するためには、念入りな下地処理が必要となる。工程数も多く、塗装の難易度は高い。
