WSB、WSSとは？
スーパーバイク世界選手権（略称WSB）は、ヨーロッパを中心に展開する市販車をベースとした最高峰のロードレースです。WSBでは、各メーカーの市販車で4気筒1000cc以下もしくは2気筒1200cc以下のエンジンを搭載したマシンが使われ、Hondaでは CBR1000RR（4ストローク4気筒1000cc）がレース車両として採用されています。WSBと併催してスーパースポーツ世界選手権（WSS）も行われます。WSSは、4ストローク4・3・2気筒エンジンの使用が認められており、HondaではCBR600RR（4ストローク4気筒600cc）のマシンが採用されています。
WSBとWSSともにマシンの改造範囲が限られていることから、MotoGP（ロードレース世界選手権）と比べて、性能差が少なく、より市販車に近い仕様のマシンでレースが繰り広げられることから、より身近で、また市販車の基本性能が実証される場としてヨーロッパで特に人気の高いレースです。
WSBは1大会で2レースが開催され、年間トータルのポイント獲得数でチャンピオンを決します。WSSは1大会で1レースが開催されます。
日本でのレースは現在開催されていませんが、日本人選手の活躍もあり国内での注目度も高いレースです。各レースの模様は「J SPORTS」を通じてCS放送などでも楽しめます。

A fantastic World Supersport season opener at Phillip Island sees newcomer Sam Lowes make his mark on the series and narrowly miss out on his debut win. Luca Scass and Broc Parkes use their extra horsepower to blast past him just yards from the finish line.
Several riders had their races ended by an extremely rare occurrence: rear tyre punctures. I've never even seen one puncture as obvious as these, let alone three in one race. Apparently the failures were caused by the inner lining of the Pirelli tyres becoming so hot that they blistered and let all the air out almost immediately.
