セレブリティ・ソルスティスがシンガポールを出航して10日目、世界遺産グレートバリアリーフのゲートウェイ、ケアンズのヨーキーズノブという街の遥か沖合に到着しました。
ここは人口僅か2700人の小さな街ですが、自然がとても豊かなところです。
それではまず、ヨーキーズノブの自然についてお伝えします。
The day-10 after saling Singapore, Celebrity Solstice arrived far off the coast of Yorkeys Knob, a town in Cairns that is the gateway to the Great Barrier Reef, a World Heritage Site.
This is a small town with a population of just 2,700, but it is blessed with an abundance of nature.
First, let us tell you about the nature of Yorkeys Knob.

ヨーキーズノブ・ボーティング・クラブを出ると直ぐに鬱蒼とした森が現れます。
右側方向は、人が入ることができないような深いジャングルになっています。

遊歩道上には、森に生息する動物の写真付きの説明板がありました。
リスモドキ(夜行性で滑空するグライディングポッサム)、
ストライプポッサム、
ハリモグラ、
メガネオオコウモリ、
オーストラリアン水ネズミ、
レースオオトカゲ
の６種類の動物が生息している様です。
特に驚きは、King of the Aussie Bush（オーストラリアのブッシュの王）と呼ばれ、オスは、体調2m、体重5kgにも達する、コモドドラゴンにも負けない様な大きなトカゲがこの森に生息していると記されています。

On the boardwalk, there was an explanatory board with pictures of the animals that inhabit the forest, as shown in the picture above.
There are six species of animals living in the forest:
Squirrel Glider (nocturnal gliding possum),
Striped Possum,
Echidna,
Spectacled Flying Fox,
Australian Water Rat,
and Lace Monitor.
The most surprising is the King of the Aussie Bush, a male lizard that can reach 2 meters in length and 5 kilograms in weight, as large as a Komodo dragon.

ヨーキーズノブのシンボル
もう少し歩いて行くと、ここヨーキーズノブの街のシンボル標識が現れて来ました。
ヨーキーズノブの説明には、この街の名が記されたロータリーが目印になっています。
ここで記念に写真を撮っておきました。

Walking a little further, we came to the symbolic sign for the town of Yorkeys Knob.
The description of Yawkey's Knob is marked by a roundabout with the name of the city on it.
I took a picture here to commemorate the occasion.

シティバードはクロオーム
ここで写真を撮っていると、何やら「ギャーギャー」というけたたましい音とも声とも聞こえる騒音が聞こえて来ました。
その方向へ行って見ると、真っ黒な大きな鳥がいました。
よく見るとどうやらクロオームの仲間の様です。
木の実を足で掴み、大きな曲がったクチバシで美味しそうに食べています。
ここヨーキーズノブのシティバードは、このカラスの様に真黒なオームだったのです。
注）このクロオーム、尾羽の裏側に一対の赤い羽根を確認することができました。
すなわち、正式名称は、アカオクロオウム(Red-tailed black cockatoo)というそうです。

While I was taking picture here, we heard a loud, “gyah-gyah” noisy voice.
I went in that direction and saw a big, pitch black bird.
Looking more closely, we could see it was a member of the black parrot family.
It was holding a nut with its feet and eating it hungrily with its big, curved beak.
The city bird here in Yorkey's Knob was this pitch black crow-like parrot.
Note:
We were able to confirm that this Black Parrot has a pair of red feathers on the underside of its tail.
In other words, its official name is apparently the Red-tailed black cockatoo.

この美しいビーチにも様々な生物がいます
そうなんですね、自然豊かだからこそ、ビーチにもいろいろな生物が生息しています。
私たちが訪れた4月は、危険な生物が生息している様です。
この時期、特に多いのがクラゲなんです。
このクラゲは、広大なオーストラリアのすべての海岸付近に生息しています。
特に多く生息しているのがケアンズの海岸線だそうです。
時期的には、11〜5月はクラゲに注意が必要です。
美しいビーチがオーストリア全土のどこにでもありますが、非常に残念なことに、遊泳することは禁止されています。
但し、ケアンズの場合、沖合に位置するグレートバリアリーフには、クラゲはいないそうです。
There are various creatures on this beautiful beach.
Yes, because it is rich in nature, various creatures live on the beach.
When we visited in April, it seems that dangerous creatures live there.
Jellyfish are especially common at this time of year.
These jellyfish live near all the coasts of the vast Australia.
It seems that they are especially abundant on the coastline of Cairns.
In terms of the season, you need to be careful of jellyfish from November to May.
There are beautiful beaches all over Australia, but unfortunately, swimming is prohibited.
However, in the case of Cairns, there are no jellyfish on the Great Barrier Reef located offshore.
