At its base lies Lake Mendenhall. This is the Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska, a glacier that beautifully marks the beginning of the season in May.Pic.01ビジターセンターから眺めたメンデンホール氷河Mendenhall Glacier as seen from the visitor centerPic.02ビジターセンターの看板があるところから、メンデンホール氷河を眺めて見ました。We took a look at the Mendenhall Glacier from where the visitor center sign was located.Pic.03Telltale Ring Around the Valley　と書かれています。直訳すると、「谷の周囲の謎の輪」ですが何を意味しているのでしょうか？詳細説明文には、かつて氷河の柱は、今日あなたが立っているところから200ft（約60m）上部に聳え立っていました。と標記されています。氷河の周辺には整備されたハイキングコースがあり、ここからスタートします。It says "Telltale Ring Around the Valley."What does it mean?The detailed description states that the glacier column once towered 200 feet (approximately 60 meters) above where you are standing today.There is a well-maintained hiking trail around the glacier, and this is where it starts.Pic.04ハイキングコースを進んでいくと、氷河がよく見える高台に到着します。ここから見ると氷河は少し小さく見えます。As we continue along the hiking trail, we'll reach a high point where we can get a good view of the glacier, although it will appear a little smaller from here.Pic.05もっと近づいて見てみましょう。Let's take a closer look.Pic.06ナゲット滝に近づいて見ました。以前より、高さは115mと変化していませんが、氷河が解けた水量は莫大になってしまいました。We approached Nugget Falls to take a closer look. Its height remains unchanged at 115m, but the amount of water released from the melting glacier has become enormous.この美しい自然がメンデンホール氷河がしかしThis beautiful natural formation is the Mendenhall Glacier.HoweverPic.07近づくにつれて、氷河がよりはっきりと見えてきます。氷河特有のグレーシャーブルーもはっきりと確認できます。As we get closer, the glaciers become more clearly visible. We can see the glacier in the distance.メンデンホール氷河ビジターセンター行バスBus to Mendenhall Glacier Visitor CentrePic.05ホーランド・アメリカ・ラインの桟橋前にある切符売り場（メンデンホール氷河ビジターセンター行バス）で購入できます。数社あるので、それぞれ料金交渉が必要です。2025年6月現在、＄80～90 / 1名と、お店によってことなるので、お気を付けいただきますよう。Tickets can be purchased at the ticket office (bus to Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Centre) located in front of the pier of Holland America LineSince multiple companies operate this route, you will need to negotiate prices with each company. They provide this kind of bus shuttle service. And of course, it's free.Pic.06プリンセスクルーズラインのドック前まで送迎してくれます。丁度、グランド・プリンセスが停泊していました。The Shutlle coach provide transportation right to in front of the Princess Cruises dock. The Grand Princess was docked there at the time.Pic.07プリンセス・ドックの向かい側は、ケチカン・クリークへの最短コースです。右側のレンガ色の建物を回り込むと直ぐ見えてきます。Across from Princess Dock is the shortest route to Ketchikan Creek.You'll see it immediately after going around the brick-colored building on the right.--------------------------------------2011年に訪れた”ケチカン・クリーク”の様子、こんなところです。2026年現在も、まったく変わっていません。This is what Ketchikan Creek looked like when I visited in 2011.As of 2026, nothing has changed here.Pic.08ここがケチカンクリーク入り口です。木造の建物はすべてお土産屋さんです。This is the entrance to Ketchikan Creek. All the wooden buildings are souvenir shops.Pic.09これがケチカン・クリークです。海水が引き込まれていて、上流の川と繋がっています。従ってクリークは、鮭の上流への通り道になっていて、無数の鮭が泳いでいます。This is Ketchikan Creek. Seawater is drawn into it, connecting it to the river upstream. We were finally ready to set sail.-----------------------------カナダプレースとは (from Website)カナダプレースは、1986年のバンクーバー万博のカナダ政府館を使用した総合施設で、バンクーバーのシンボル的存在です。バラード入江に突き出しており、テントが連なったように見える特徴的な、白くて大きな建物は、船の帆とマストをイメージして造られました。現在は、国際会議場として使われており、2015年には、カナダの大自然や都市の上の遊覧飛行をバーチャル体験（4D映像）できる、フライ・オーバー・カナダがオープンしました。ホテルやレストランなども入っており、また、クルーズ船が停泊する埠頭としても利用されています。周辺を歩き回ることもでき、先端からは、対岸のノース・バンクーバー、スタンレパークなどを見渡せます。What is Canada Place? (from Website)Canada Place is a Vancouver landmark, formerly the Canadian Government Pavilion from the 1986 Vancouver World Expo. Jutting out into Burrard Inlet, this distinctive white building resembles a series of tents and was designed to resemble a ship's sails and masts.Currently used as an international conference center, FlyOver Canada opened in 2015, offering a virtual 4D scenic flight experience over Canada's natural beauty and cityscape. The complex also houses hotels and restaurants, and serves as a wharf for cruise ships.We can also walk around the area, and from the tip, you can enjoy panoramic views of North Vancouver and Stanle Park across the bay.Pic.07カナダプレースとクルーズ船　Canada Place and Cruise Ship-----------------------------インサイド・パッセージ、シーニック・クルーズがスタートScenic Cruise begins in the Inside PassagePic.08カナダ・プレイスを出発し、美しい景色の中を進むと、右舷側に別のクルーズ船が並んで航行しているのが見えました。これが、インサイド・パッセージでの風光明媚なクルーズの始まりでした。After departing Canada Place, amidst the beautiful scenery, I noticed another cruise ship sailing alongside us on the starboard side. You absolutely must try it!ある日の朝食第一弾One day's breakfast, part onePic.17日本ならではの素晴らしく美しいオムレットA wonderfully beautiful omelet unique to Japan.-------------------------------------------------終わりに賑やかなメインストリートの喧騒の中、長崎駅前で空港リムジンバスを降り、徒歩5分のヒルトン長崎のフロントでチェックインしました。部屋に入った瞬間、爽快感と活力がみなぎりました。角部屋の2つの窓からの眺めは息を呑むほど美しく、その景色に心を奪われました。さらに、翌日の朝食がどんなものか気になっていたのですが、ラウンジの朝食がとても美味しかったのです。レストランでは提供されていない「エッグベネディクト」、「角煮まんじゅう」もありました。一方、レストランでは、長崎名物の「ちゃんぽん」や五島名物の「五島うどん」をはじめ、ラウンジにはない様々な料理が楽しめます。ラウンジもレストランも、地元長崎名物や特産品を筆頭に、日本料理を主として提供しており、大変満足しました。ヒルトン長崎は、私のお気に入りのホテルのひとつになりました。In conclusionAmidst the hustle and bustle of the main street, I got off the airport limousine bus in front of Nagasaki Station and checked in at the Hilton Nagasaki reception, a 5-minute walk away.The moment I entered my room, I felt refreshed and invigorated. The view from the two windows of corner room was invigorating, and we were captivated by the beautiful scenery.It was a truly wonderful room that we could enjoy all day long, morning, noon and night, just by being in it.Hilton Nagasaki has corner rooms on each floor, but of course not all corner rooms offer this view.
