知的な人々から尊敬され、子供たちに好かれること。

To earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends;
正直に批評してくれるヒトに恵まれ、見せかけの友人の裏切りに耐えられること。

To appreciate beauty, to find the best in others;
美しいものが分かり、他人の良いところを見つけられること。

To leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch or a redeemed social condition;
この世を少しでもよいものにして去ること。
それが、元気な子供を育てることや庭を造ることでも、社会問題を解決することでもよい。

To know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived.
そして、たった一人でもいいから、自分の存在によって心が安らいだ人がいるということを知ること。

This is to have succeeded.
それができたら、人生は成功だったといえる。
