ある日、稽古を終えて、門弟一同が香取・鹿島神宮の神前と流祖飯篠長威斎家直先生に礼をした直後、後方から長威斎先生に質問を投げかける者がおりました。 ”どんなに稽古を積んでも、私には闘争心や敵を攻撃する意思が生まれません。自分を守りたいという感覚はあっても敵を攻撃する行為に結びつきません。香取神道流を習得する才がないのでしょうか？”
長威斎先生は、”敵に勝つ者を上とし、敵を討つ者は之に次ぐ”とおっしゃいました。
そして、”敵を討つには剣のみで足れり。敵に勝つためには剣を通して心身を鍛え、英知を蓄え、揺るぎない信念に支えられた人間力を養うべし”と付け加えました。
更に、”才とは高く飛ぶ力でなく、機敏に動く力でなく、早く習得する力でもない。才とは経津主大神の剣を信じ、生涯をかけて継続する力と知るべし”とおっしゃって道場を後にしました。
香取神道流を学ぶ友から藤村操のことを知らされました。藤村操はエリート学生でありながら思い悩み、”巌頭之感”を残し、１９０３年に１７歳で華厳の滝に身を投げました。藤村の死後４年間で華厳の滝で自殺を図った若者は１８５名にのぼったとあります。
物事の真髄は深く、生涯をかけて探求するに値するものです。故に、生きて生きて生き抜いて、稽古して稽古して稽古し続けて近づけるものです。藤村操のような優秀な若者が結論を急ぎ、人生を投げ出すことを憂います。生きてさえいれば、昨日よりは良い明日が必ず来ます。そして、真髄に近づきます。
After the training of one day, immediately after the followers made the greeting the front of shrines of Katori and Kashima, one of followers asked the foundr one question. " Though I have the hard training, the combative spirit against an enemy is not born to me. Even if there is a feeling to protect myself, it is not connected with the act which attacks an enemy. Don't I have any talents which masters Katori Shintouryu? "
The founder said, "Those who win an enemy rank a top, and those who kill an enemy rank second to this." and " Only a sword is enough for killing an enemy, however, in order to win an enemy, spirit and body should be trained through Katori Shintoryu, wisdom should be stored, and the human power supported on the firm belief should be grown" was added. Furthermore, the talent is not the power to jump up, not the power to move quickly, but the power to master quickly, either. The talent is you can continuously train Katori Shintoryu while you believe the God sword of Futsunushi, "and the founder left the Dojo (exercise hall).
Misao Fujimura's thing was told by my friend who train the Katori Shintoryu together. Misao Fujimura worried, though it was an elite student, left "a poem of Gantou-No-Kan", threw himself into the waterfall of Kegon and committed suicide at the age of 17 in 1903. There is 185 young people who aimed at suicide in the waterfall of Kegon after his suicide.
The nature of things is deep and deserves searching applying the whole life.
Therefore, we should live, live, survive, and train, train, train and eventually get close to it. I am a bit worried about an excellent young man like Misao Fujimura who want to have a conclusion so quickly, and give up life.
It is true that tomorrow is better than yesterday, and we can get closer to the nature of everything.
巌頭之感 : Poem of Ganto-No-Kan
- 悠々たる哉天壤、
- 遼々たる哉古今、
- 五尺の小躯を以て此大をはからむとす、
- ホレーショの哲學竟（つい）に何等のオーソリチィーを價するものぞ、
- 萬有の眞相は唯だ一言にして悉す、曰く「不可解」。
- 我この恨を懐いて煩悶、終に死を決するに至る。
- 既に巌頭に立つに及んで、
- 胸中何等の不安あるなし。
- 始めて知る、
- 大なる悲觀は大なる樂觀に一致するを。
