熊笹の対座の教えは、争いを回避するために、圧倒的な強さと自分の得意とする分野の強みを活かした知恵による対話の重要性を説いています。 圧倒的強さを得るためには心、技、体を常に鍛えぬかなければなりません。
心はとても大切です。常に心を穏やかにし、武力は何のためにあるかを理解し、使うべき時は最後の防御手段であり、常にベストの手段でないことを知るべきです。他人より強い力を得ると使いたくなる誘惑にかられます。そのような誘惑に弱い者が権力者になったら悲劇です。
技は、常に磨かなければなりません。技（兵器）は常に改良され、力が強くなります。最強の技（武器）を身につけ、自由自在に使いこなす鍛錬が日々必要です。その意味では、現代においては最強の武器を持たなければならないことになるのかもしれません。しかし、そのためには心（倫理観）と体（体制）を整えなければなりません。
体はその心と技を生みだす土台だからです。健全な体に健全な心が宿り、健全な体から最高の技が生まれます。決して、気違いに刃物になってはいけません。感情によって最強の武器が使われることの恐ろしさ、独裁者によって最強の兵器が使われることの恐ろしさを知るべきです。 心、技、体が整わずに、最強の武器を持つことは、とても恐ろしいことです。
圧倒的強さに加えて、それ以上に重要なことが、対話です。 平和を得るために重要であることは言うまでもありません。香取神道流では、対話により平和を得ることを最も尊いとし、武力での平定を次としております。
Kumazasa No Taiza No Osie teaches us that overwhelming power and reconciliation through communication are extremely important to make a peaceful world. We continuously need to upgrade and improve our mind, technique, and body.
Our mind is the most important. We always need to have a peaceful mind while understanding why we have military forces, and always reminding us that it is the last solution and not the best one. We are tempted to use the power when we have stronger than others. It is very dangerous when the man who has such a mind become a leader of the nation.
The technique should be always upgraded. The technique (weapons) are always improved and stronger. We always should train ourself to use the strongest technique (weapons) correctly. In the sense, we may need to have the strongest weapons in the contemporary world. We should have a healthy mind and body to have it.
A body is the base to create the mind and the technique. A healthy body grows the healthy mind, and creates the highest technique. It is very dangerous to use the strongest weapons by very emotional judgements and dictators. We should know it is extremely risky.
Communication is much more important than that. Needless to say, it is important to make a peaceful world. Katori Shintoryu puts the hightest priority on communication rather than the power to make a peace.
