Torino Manuscript - Ricercari Libro 3(17 c.)
Carl van der Hoeven (1580 - 1661)
Who is C.V.D.H.? I have encountered other cases where only initials are used, but it is very tricky because I don't know if I can identify them. I am glad that in this case I managed to confirm that it is “Carl van der Hoeven”.
Also, the ricercar of Nos. 61 and 62 have no composer's name or order of pieces attached, and at first glance one might think they are anonymous, but a glance at the table of contents reveals that they are both works by Carl van der Hoeven.
56. Ricercar pº(Primo) quarti toni
His works are made up of relatively simple compositions, but are characterized by very fine ornamentation. Whether this ornamentation can be traced back to the composer himself is beyond me, but I can understand that it is quite elaborate.
