No.66 (William Byrd) "Why doe I use my paper, ink and pen"
This song is included in "Psalmes, Sonets and Songs" as Songs of sadness and piety. Dow only wrote the lyrics for Mus-985 (the part I put on Soprano 2), but in "Psalmes, Sonets and Songs" all parts have lyrics. However, the Medius part is marked "The first singing part" and Dow seems to follow this.
bar1-14 : Why do I vse my paper, inck & pen,
& call my witts to counsaile what to say.
bar14-23 : such memories were made for mortal men
I speak of saints whose names cannot decay.
bar23-34 : an angels trump were fitter for to sound
their glorious death. if such on erth were found.
bar34-48 : an angel's trump were fitter for to sound
their glorious death. if such on erth were found.
